GIP! and randomness
Soooooooo....
I'm back in Columbus. I can't put into words how HAPPY that makes me. I missed this place something awful and now I'm back in my own dinky little apartment just across the street from campus. It's a complete mess at the moment because my movitation to put crap away is inversely proportional to the amount of sleep I've gotten and the amount of OOH SHINY I can find on the internet. Or something.
So I had my first Latin class this morning annnnnnnnnnnnnd it's, uh, what the hell? Accelerated Latin? O.o It's a new program they're trying out. Basically, the way things work at OSU is that you have to take 4 quarters of a foriegn language, or have credit (you can get credit through tests at the beginning of university) for said 4 quarters. 3 quarters = 2 semesters, coz OSU is backasswards and not only starts later than most other universities but has a different term system. SO. The thing with this new Latin class is they're basically cramming 4 quarters of Latin into 3...so you can take your required foriegn language in one year, instead of a year and a quarter.
Because I was very excited (And still am!) about taking Latin (shut up, I'm an English major), and didn't want to rush through it, I first thought I wasn't going to stick with it. But the more I think about it, the better I think it will be, because the teacher said the course is slightly different, the book the accelerated class is using is better-written, and I think I might actually get more out of this class sequence, despite the fact that there's only gonna be 3 quarters of it. (I can, of course, take more Latin courses if I so choose.)
And then, in a move whose brilliance is only surpassed by the grace with which I pulled it off...I cleverly missed my second class. *facepalms* I accomplished this by going to the room where the lecture is, at 11:30. Only, lecture is on Tuesday and Thursdays (AT EIGHT IN THE MORNING, MOTHER OF GOD WHAT WAS I THINKING) ...and today is Wednesday. Today is lab. IN ANOTHER BUILDING. *dies* SO, upon realizing my mistake, I hauled my ass to the nearest public computer and checked my schedule. Whereupon I proceeded to what I am still fairly sure is the correct room, but...there was nobody there. Wtf? Since it's the first day and all, and it would have been bio LAB, I'm just guessing it ended before I got there (I was about 20 minutes late) and everyone left, because they didn't have much to do. I hope. Tomorrow morning is lecture; I'll ask the prof and explain my moronic mistake.
And now on to the dilemma of books. As a rule, university bookstores (at least around here) charge you an arm, a leg, a pelvis and your first-born child's SOUL for textbooks, so I was thinking of using Amazon.com or half.com to buy my books, but I don't know how long they'd take to get here, and (especially in the case of this accelerated Latin course, which will kick my ASS if I don't get on top and STAY on top of it ASAP) I really kind of want my books *now*. I'm gonna check to see if the websites have the books I want, and how much they'd cost, and how long they'd get here, and then we'll see.
And I still need to finish putting crap away. I'm already compiling a list of stuff I need to get from Dayton that I forgot (like a computer chair and a bathmat XD) and I still need to buy shoes and wedding present(s) for Traci's wedding and O_O AIEEEEEEE oh well it'll all be fine.
Gonna go attempt to do something useful now. *DASH*
