Then, it wasn't too long ago Pete Hegseth was a host on Fox News and had authored a book on his deep concerns about America's education system and how he and his wife have chosen to make aggressive moves in educating their blended family. In some cases, even removing them from certain private Christian education for falling just as short as public education. Now, Hegseth is considered a "highly controversial" pick for President-elect Trump's next Secretary of Defense. Meet The Woman Who Kept Men Out Of Her Women-Only College

Saint Mary's College, an all women's Catholic school not far from the University of Notre Dame is the lone female-only school left in the United States. 19-year-old sophomore Macy Gunnell who worked in the admissions office while taking classes at St. Mary's stumbled across something shocking in student recruitment literature. The words "consistently live or identify as a woman" jarred the officer of St. Mary's College Republicans and Turning Point USA chapter. That's when Macy sprung into action. Hear the story of one bold, young woman's fight to preserve and protect her all-women's Catholic school and the lengths to which she went to eliminate "woke-ism" from her campus with the help of the local bishop, the media, and a lot of determination.

This episode might reflect one of the biggest "leapers" we've ever featured. Both geographically and in terms of educating her kids. Stephanie Murray was a young mother in Boston whose husband's work to her to Park City, Utah. She began by placing her kids in a Montessori school, before pulling them to homeschool. The Murray family quickly realized the need for a Christian school in their back yard andthe interest many other families had in what she was doing. It led her to create Telos Christian, and interestingly families of multiple faith backgrounds began to pour in. But how do you navigate a Biblically based curriculum in a town with many families who don't share those views and values? Christian Media Is Booming!

While there's never been a bigger selection and menu of Christian media options today, there's also never been a more aggressive push to silence those products. That's why the National Religious Broadcasters exist as an organization - to advocate for and defend Christian programming. President of the NRB, Troy Miller has invited the Stigalls to participate in producing Making the Leap from their annual convention and they will return next year with their colleagues from the Herzog Podcast Network and the Lion to formally join the NRB. In today's conversation we get a peek inside the battles Christian programmers sometimes fight to get their products to market for their audiences. The NRB has been in existence for over eighty years when radio was the primary media delivery system. Today, Christian media has expanded to network television, satellite and streaming radio and podcasts, publishing, and much more.

Dr. Allison Lassiter is one of the more interesting examples of someone whose life in education is one full of change. She's a community college professor who also homeschools but has also placed some of her kids in a classical Christian school. College-Simulated Learning for K12 w/ Dr. Keri Ingraham

Dr. Keri Ingraham joins the show to explain a new, hybrid education model that's quickly rising in popularity — College-Simulated Learning or CSL. Schools that use this education model are called University-Model schools and are accredited by NAUMS, Inc. Primarily used for high schoolers, this model is a hybrid home/in-class schedule to create more flexibility and space for small institutions as well as increase parental involvement at home.

Dr. Ingraham also recaps school choice victories from 2023. Nearly 10 states passed universal school choice programs! She predicts which states will join them in 2024 and create their own programs.

Maryellen has since become one of the country’s leading experts on Charlotte Mason’s pedagogy and was a primary author of the book, When Children Love to Learn.

In 2000, Maryellen founded Ambleside School of Fredericksburg, Texas, providing children with a Charlotte Mason education and serving as a center for training interested educators from around the world. In response to growing requests for help in establishing Ambleside Schools, in 2005, Maryellen co-founded Ambleside Schools International.

With over 20 years of experience in state and federal policy, Karla uses her unique perspective to advise education leaders on sound policy and best practices to advance academic achievement for all students, including those with disabilities. Karla is the proud mother of a 19-year-old son and a 15-year daughter with Down Syndrome, both with learning disabilities.

Throughout their discussion with Karla, Chris and Christine find that learning disabilities come in many different forms, and unfortunately, many students go undiagnosed for years.

On the bright side, educating students with disabilities isn't as difficult as some make it out to be. By simply changing their approach and teaching strategies, countless private schools could increase their capacity and better serve all students.

A Family's Decision to Choose Homeschooling

Choosing to Stand Up & Speak Out w/ Nicole Solas

Chris and Christine are joined this week by Rhode Island mom and IWF Senior Fellow Nicole Solas. When Nicole enrolled her first child in kindergarten, she started asking questions of her local school district. To her surprise, the district wasn't willing to answer her questions and immediately retaliated against her.

But Nicole didn't back down. She has decided to stand up to the oppressive teachers unions and school districts that hide public information and bully parents. Nicole now advocates for school choice and academic transparency on a nationwide scale.

Chris and Christine also address this week's tragic shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, TN, which claimed the lives of three young students and three adults. This was a heinous and evil attack on Christianity, and we are demanding answers along with national leaders and parents.

A Mom on a Mission

On this week's episode, Chris and Christine discuss the importance of speaking up and demanding transparency in K-12 education. They are joined by a mom who has been a fearless warrior for Pennsylvania students since 2020. "She did something during covid that no other parent did," Chris said.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Megan Brock said she was a "regular mom." That quickly changed when Megan saw politics taking over the public school system in her state.

Schools were shutting down with no science to back up the closures. From her vantage point, kids were being used as political pawns. Meanwhile, juvenile crime rates in Philadelphia were increasing and math and science scores were rapidly dropping.

Christine and Chris dive into one of the more controversial issues in Christian education; the role of science in a biblically-based education.

The Stigalls welcome guest, Nancy Reid, a middle-school science teacher at Veritas Christian Academy in Wayland, Massachusetts. Nancy was one of twelve 2022 Christian Teacher of the Year winners at the Excellence in Christian Education Awards presented by the Herzog Foundation last month in Washington, D.C.

They discuss how science and the bible merge when taught well, talking about issues like the age of earth, evolution and the creation of life. They also discuss how science and Christianity agree on most issues.

Nancy shares her teaching style and why she starts with secular textbooks and then critiques them scientifically to show that biblical principles still apply. She discusses her project to create companion guides for secular textbooks so that Christian schools or homeschoolers have more resources to teach biblically based science.

As the beginning of the school year approaches, more parents are considering Christian education options as the public education system continues to fail. Culture has drastically shifted the education sphere forcing teachers and administrators to explore career alternatives or leave their profession entirely. Prior to the pandemic, a subtle shift and change happened in the public education systems and curricula. Now, teachers, administrators, school boards, and teachers’ unions are emboldened like never before.

Victory for Christian Education

Christian education hasn’t always been mainstream. Many parents, including Chris & Christine, just recently started exploring Christian education as a viable option for their children. Whether it was covid restrictions or political agendas hidden within curriculum, parents around the country are the waking up to the reality that is public education today.
The Herzog Foundation, a nationwide Christian education non-profit, aims to equip parents with knowledge so they can make the best decisions for their children’s education. Chris and Christine felt they had no choice but to pack their bags.
