from the mind of katharine francesca
[Dad, Annie (
shatterglass), me at a restaurant]
Me (after a long lull in conversation): You know what really bothers me? When people say, 'you can't fire me! I quit!' I mean, you've already been fired.
Dad: Not necessarily. Wouldn't you have to acknowledge that you've been fired to actually be fired?
Annie: Yeah! There are people at my mom's office who have been fired and just keep coming back and doing their work. It's only after they don't get paid when they start to realise, 'whoa, maybe they were serious about firing me!'
Dad: I mean, there have to have been situations where someone's like, 'You're fired!' -- 'I have pictures.' -- 'You're hired!'
