Oh. Em. Gee.
It's only been a half a bajillion years since I've posted and I'd apologise but you all know that nothing will change right now, lol. Anyways, hi. I'm still here (living) but way busy...I'm here as a matter of procrastination, really.
I have this assignment due on Friday for Phonetics where we have to speak with a native speaker of a foreign language and notate the consonant sounds of said language, and then put them into an IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) type chart dealie. So, I spoke to a friend of mine who's a native Vietnamese speaker and it seems that the whole thing is much more complicated than I had thought and/or than it needs to be...I have begun to wonder if she is as fluent as I had hoped or as fluent as she thought since she more currently speaks a mix of English and Vietnamese (a "use it or lose it" problem). So, now I'm not sure if I have enough consonants, or if the ones I have are entirely correct because her usage isn't what it once was. I guess it no longer matters, lol, I just have to get on with it and try not to pass out from frustration with this damn thing.
I did the chart this arvo and I've drafted a lot of the work on the other components; notating where in words the consonant sounds fall (word initial, word final or between vowels) and working out how they're formed and articulated...Very tiresome.
Urgh.
And, to make the whole thing worse, we were informed on Friday (about a week after the assignment was handed out) that we have to submit a recording of our subject as well...Nice for those who didn't record their interviews (I did, but it's still a pain in the tuchas), and I'm not sure how many recordings will be submitted simply because so many people would have done the work already. I guess time will tell.
Along with this assessment, I have to write a set of notes for my Varieties of English Grammar (VEG) readings for my tutorial tomorrow, which I did today...All good until I realised that I read next week's readings, rather than the ones for tomorrow. Feck. Such is my life right now.
Anyway, just letting you know I'm still alive and I'm reading your entries as always, even if I've been slack with updating my own xxx
