You don't have to be rich at Ikea...But it helps.

Hullo :)

Today's been a big one. I'm way tired, lol.

Mum and I went to Ikea today and I decided that I had to finally bite the bullet and sort out my room. I've been wanting to do it, in some part, for ages, but it's always seemed like such a fucking task because of how much crap I own. I really dread getting rid of my stuff (it's a hoarding problem in the early stages, I'm sure) because I get so attached to everything. Anyway, I was starting to be overcome by books and DVDs, so I figured, before I can't get into my room anymore, it was time to do something.

We rambled through Ikea for ages, lol. Originally we were only going to be there for two hours or so, but it didn't play out that way. About four hours later...

I got a proper desk chair (I was using an old dining chair, lol, and it was hell on my back), a DVD tower (now full, need another), an almost ceiling high bookcase (now full), a lower and longer bookcase (not assembled yet) and another smaller, low bookcase (also not yet assembled). It all cost me $419.44, which is pretty sweet. I think my PS2 games and remaining DVDs can go in the small bookcase and I'll have an almost completely empty bookcase once the long one goes in. I just have to fight the urge to cram it full of crap at the first opportunity, lol.

The stuff didn't take that long to put together, but my back is just about completely fucked from lifting and holding and dealing with the furniture in the store, so I guess that evens it out, lol. Naturally, it couldn't have been easy. Oh, and I mashed my fingers about thirty times with all the carrying and putting-down.

I spent about an hour, maybe more, organising all of my books. I couldn't really decide on how best to shelve them. I eventually went by association, lol. Kind of complex if you don't see the links between the authors or subjects. For instance, I have Oscar Wilde, Stephen Fry and QI, Woodehouse, Hugh Laurie, Ben Elton and then linguistics-type books. Also on the same shelf (and it's a real jump, lol) there's Macaulay Culkin (yes, he wrote a book), Michael Jackson (his book and others about him), Peter Pan (two editions), Alice in Wonderland (and the Annotated Alice, which is a brilliant book, as it happens) and The Wizard of Oz. Sex and kink are on the top shelf, lol. Psychology, neurology, and drugs are all together. Crime and horror (crime/thriller/horror novels and true crime) are all in the same place. Lots of Stephen King, there. Oh, and the heavy books are on the bottom, lol. Natch.

Does anyone else have this problem? Like, do you guys have a fixed system, or do you rearrange them often?

So yeah. I just have my old, and empty, fish tank has to go tomorrow, I think, and my PS2 and various gear can move toward my TV (because the books aren't there now). Then the new bookcases can go in and my journals finally have somewhere to live...Rather than mouldering away in piles, lol. It'll be good to get them in chronological order.

Ideally I would have gotten more work done on my essays today, but no. I guess it can't hurt *dies from fear*. I still have a bit of time to get them done, so I have to have faith that it'll be OK.

Got our last trial soccer game tomorrow, which is my first because I didn't play the first two because of my back (which I think I've destroyed again), which will be a blast *rolls eyes*. I'm not sure how we'll do because some of our best players won't be in attendance...Including our Captain, lol...But again, faith. Good fucking luck, more like.

Man, I'm tired. Bedtime for this little black duck xx

P.S. I also bought three stuffed mice from Ikea. I thought they were cute.
