First real uni related post. Go me!
Contrary to popular belief, I'm not dead in a ditch somewhere. Lately I've been super busy (OK, not super busy, but busy) getting my stuff ready for uni which starts next week.
Today was the beginning of O-Week so naturally I felt compelled to visit the campus and see what all the hoo-ha is about. The day began with the Dean's Welcome in the Great Hall (how Hogwartsy is that?!) and the place was filled with important people like the Chancellor (Prof. Marie Bashir) and the Vice Chancellor (whose name I don't remember), some Fellows of both the Senate and the university and...Wait for it...Two Peers. Real ones. The place was full of college Freshers, too, looking all fancy and imposing in their black cloaks. Little bastards.
Lots of stalls were out for the various societies and groups, though I didn't join any of them because...Well, I'm not the joining stuff type, really. Except maybe Ultimate Frisbee. I'd so rule that. I hung out with a friend of mine from TAFE who transferred to Sydney uni, so at least I had someone to hang out with, which was cool...We both got sun burned. I always forget that that can still happen if it's cloudy.
I waited in line for what seemed like forever to get this clash between English and Linguistics in my timetable sorted out and after all of that fart-arsing about, it turns out that there's nothing to be done about it. It's a clash between lectures, so I'll have to sort it out somehow. I'm thinking about alternating between the subjects, so Mondays I go to Linguistics, Wednesday to English. But we'll see how it goes. I mean, I could always drop one of them and change it for something else, but it's tough because those are my Major options and I really want to stick with them, but you know what? If after a few weeks I'm being driven insane by the whole situation, I'll change something. It would be really super helpful if the locations of the lectures where anywhere near each other. But no. That would be convenient.
So yeah. I'm looking forward to it, I think. Not that I have much choice because lectures begin on Monday. Like...A few days away. Oy. I think that once I adjust and gain a bit of confidence (and stop getting lost nine times a day), everything will be OK. This is something that I've wanted forever and I did it all by myself. This is mine and no one can take it away from me...And that's pretty cool.
A quick pic of one of the sandstone buildings from Victoria Park...It was pretty early in the morning, so there weren't many people around yet.
I did have some other photos...But LJ has decided not to upload them. Bastard.
