So, in response to her letter M themed meme, the lovely and mental roguemyth   gave me the letter D. I have to think of ten people/places/things that I adore beginning with the letter D...It's going to turn into a weird version of I Spy, I'm sure.

Onward...

1. Dogs: I used to be a very definite cat person, and I love cats, don't get me wrong, but dogs are...Incidentally...The cat's pyjamas, lol. I love my dog, especially, because he's such a weirdo. I like how different dogs are to cats...Their attitude is different all over and so is their behaviour. I love that you can tell when a dog is happy or sad...Or embarrassed, lol. I think I like them so much because they're genuinely funny.

2. Darkness: I don't think that I was ever afraid of the dark as a kid. I think that it was more that quiet period of time before you actually fall asleep that got to me...It's your brain that makes you think of all of the nasty things that hide in the dark, not the dark itself. Darkness is quiet, soft and cool and to me, a much more pleasant place to be. It reminds me of this thing my dad said, "the night is more forgiving". I'm so with him on that. You can be more yourself when it's dark.

3. Darling Harbour: Of course I'd go there, lol, D is a tough letter. But seriously, the views on the harbour are amazing, especially when the weather is good. It's a great space to be in because it's open enough for there to be plenty of people around for people-watching and enough things to do to keep you entertained, but there's enough places to get away and just sit, to take some time out.

4. Desks: I hate my own desk, to be honest, more because I can't stand the look of it and it always looks (like my room, really) like a bomb hit it. But other people's desks are where it's at, lol. I like how much you can tell about a person from their desk and the way they keep it (yes, I'm a snoop. I notice these things). But the other thing I like is brilliant things happen at desks...Creation happens there, success happens there, deep thought and real learning happens there...Or on the couch, if you're me. Desks and bookshelves are my favourite pieces of furniture.

5. Dinosaurs: Yes, I am a nerd. I love learning about different things and one of the first things that I ever cared about was learning about dinosaurs from this small pocket sized book I got on holidays one year. I love seeing fossils and reconstructed skeletons at the Australian Museum (my favourite museum, lol). I used to think that there might be dinosaurs hiding out somewhere out there, like the Loch Ness Monster, and how awesome it would be to spot one. I used to come up with theories about what happened to them...Meteor, tsunami, dinoflu...

6. Dr. Greg House: OK, I'm prepared to admit that I cheated on this one, lol, the D is for his title, not his name, but it fucking counts!!! D is a really hard letter! I love that character and his intelligence and intensity. I love that he's not your typical TV doctor, not saccharine and disgusting. He's extremely good at what he does and he knows it, lol, there's that ego there that might hurt the people around him but it doesn't hurt his job - you can't beat the guy. I love that he's pretty much a modern Holmes and the comparisons between the two characters are great.

7. Dragons: I've always had a thing for dragons, especially being a fan of the fantasy genre. There's something about them...That absolute strength and intelligence, that greed and need to protect their hoard. Plus the flying thing is cool too. For me, the best dragon is the one in The Hobbit: In the scene where Bilbo is sneaking into the dragon's lair and you can almost feel the heat coming off it, you can hear the coins and gold rattling down that huge pile of treasure as the creature breathes in and then out...You can see the light glinting off the dragon's scales and off the gems embedded in it's skin from lying on that cache for so long. See? Brilliant creatures. Can't forget the dragons in HP...They're cool too.

8. Dirty Diana: It's one of my favourite Michael Jackson songs and I listen to it at least once whenever I have my iPod on. I love how different it is to his other songs and I like the feel of it...It's dirty (not as dirty as Morphine, though) and rough and sexy...The lyrics are great, the sound is awesome and it's just catchy, lol. Not much more to it, but it belongs on this list.

9. Dr. Seuss: A master. What more is there to say, eh? The Lorax? Genius. Hop On Pop? Masterpiece. The Places You Will Go? Inspirational. I was sucked in by Dr. Seuss a long time ago and used to read those books whenever I'd go to my cousin's house because I didn't have them at home (I think they were the first books I read by myself). I just love how creative they are, how they rhyme and how the language isn't English entirely, but it fits perfectly. I love those made up words and creatures and I always managed to feel awful for the Whos in Whoville...They were lucky to have Horton, that's for sure.

10. OK...Listen, D is a really hard letter and I think I did pretty well getting nine things...So suck it up and settle for nine, lol. Ten is a lot, dude.
