Writer's Block: School daze
Did you remain at the same school(s) or transfer to a number of different schools growing up? How did your early educational experiences impact your self-esteem and confidence?
I started primary school at Glenfield Public School and stayed there for kindergarten and year one (first grade, obviously, lol) and then moved to Milperra Public School for years two to six because my parents had split up by then and my mother worked in the area, so that was easier for everyone. I didn't mind that move, really, because I hated my year one teacher - she was so mean. I remember my parents going in to see her and she told them that I (paraphrasing) was stupid...The thing was, my parents had told her that I had a hearing problem at that point (remedied later on) and asked her if she could seat me facing into the classroom and she wouldn't do it.
I don't think that it influenced me at all, to be honest, largely because my needs were met at this other school (and the hearing problem was corrected between schools, I think).
So funny that this should be the Writer's Block for today...
I just received my offer to study at the University of Sydney. My head's gone a bit wobbly and I don't think I'll ever stop this stupid grin, but that's the situation. I go to enrol next friday and I'm about to go and print my resignation letter.
Thank you all for being brilliant and supporting and having faith in me. You people out there in LJ land are the bomb (and the first to know, aside from my mother).
xx
