Writer's Block: When I Was Young

What do you miss most about being a kid?
Gee...Thinking back on it now, I'm not sure that there's much I miss. I mean, I don't miss being a teenager at all. Not a bit. Those were the hardest years for me.

Being a kid, though...I miss only having to do some homework. I miss being seen as "the bright one", a big fish in a small pond. I miss the magic of summer and Christmas and birthdays. I miss being able to be content. I miss fitting into small spaces and being comfortable. I miss not being anxious...Although, looking back, I was a pretty anxious and needy kid. Hm.

I was thinking the other day, on my birthday actually, about birthdays...Funny how that works. When do birthdays go from being about presents and cake and fun, to being about aging and money and existential angst? Heh, I suppose it happens the very second you understand what "existential angst" is about...
