Hullo, all.
Just returned home from Newtown. My mother successfully, and she's so good at this (I hate it), managed to talk me out of handing out my resumés..."You don't want people from your work to find out you're looking for work, they could sack you, which you don't want during these hard economic times" and things along that vein. It made me paranoid, which is hard to do. I think she's been reading too many issues of the economic quarterly.
So she went and had a haircut and I went to Gloria Jeans and mucked about with the WiFi thingo. It's neat! It's very cool to be able to sit in a coffee shop in relative comfort and be online in your own little world. Very handy, I think. A lot to be said for WiFi, I think.
Checked out some of my favourite second-hand bookshops. I bought The Ode Less Travelled by Mr. Fry to add to my collection. I've read it before and absolutely adored it, but as a reference, it's very useful, especially since I'm doing Renaissance Poetry at the mo and there's a big chapter on Shakespearean Sonnets. I bought High Society by Ben Elton - it looks like a good read and I've read one or two of his books before. Lastly, but most certainly not leastly, I got The Island of the Colour-Blind by Oliver Sacks because I could. Nah, I've read almost all of his other books and he made reference in one of them to this bloke who, after a massive car accident and a stroke, woke up and discovered - awfully - that he had Achromatopsia (complete colour-blindness) and could only see in greys...Interestingly enough, he couldn't even remember ever having seen colour, even though he was fully sighted prior to the accident. Anyway, that book referenced the one I just bought and I decided to keep an eye out for it. Hurrah.
Enough about that.
Not much else happening at the mo. Had brunch with my mad aunts while we were out, which was good. Much book discussion and talking about Podcasts and Twitter, and then from there, the only natural place to go was Stephen Fry and his fame on Twitter. Yay!
Have to buy a new iPod. Mine's one of the old ones (a first gen Nano) and has been so thoroughly used that it hardly holds its charge anymore. Sad making, but at least I get to move up in the world. And the new one's going to have a more memory...I can see me downloading lectures and things.
OK...I think I've covered everything except for my beverage at Gloria's (chai latte) and what I had for brunch (blueberry pancakes)...But you didn't want to know about that, lol.
P.S. Newtown was full of sailors - they were marching in the city today - and that made my outing all the more pleasant ;) Sailors, sailors everywhere and not a drop to drink. Lovely.
