Oh. My. Gods.
Just got back from seeing Sweeney Todd. I have to see it again. Now.
Loved it so much. I giggled when Pirelli was killed. I shouldn't have because it was particularly gory, but I couldn't helo myself. Blood, anger, internal turmoil and tragedy make for a very good musical. I tip my cap to Misters Sondheim and Burton.
There was so, so much that was very typical of Tim Burton (aside from the gore, of course) and it sounds like a bad thing when you say it like that, "typical", but he's really someone I can't get sick of. You tend to see the same sorts of camera angles (streaming in through streets and buildings, or focussing on details), the same sort of colour pallette and so forth, but to me, it feels really comfortable. I wonder what that means, lol.
God, there was so much I wanted to say about it, but I realised that I can't without giving too much away. Poop.....
Guh. It was a veritable mindgasm...All those unique and delicious actors....Depp, Bonham Carter and Rickman....And they're all singing!!!!!!!! An absolute bonus for me, because, as anyone who knows me could tell you, I love musicals. It's sad, but it's true.
Tim Burton must have had a blast making this movie. Although perhaps not as much fun as I had watching it.

A blaze of chaste white shocked through his pitch hair.
A man I saw, streaking through the bleak, grey streets, unnoticed like a shade, but I saw him.
Tall, but burdoned as if the very world in which we exist rested solely upon his shoulders. His hands were practiced and nimble, not once scarred by the keen silver blades he works with.
Dark rings around darker eyes. Eyes that search for vengeance.
They tell me he's the best barber in the city. They tell me his name is Sweeney Todd.
