Excrept from "When the Unattainable Sky Falls"
Since I'm a sheep and everyone wants fluff for V-day, and my procrastination is at its peak right now... I decided to give people an excerpt from Amethyst Bubble and I's cowriting fic. Happy Valentine's Day! ^_^
Note: This excerpt has not undergone the heavy editing we predict it will need, so it's... rough.
"So where are we going?" he asked, getting on behind Raven and
wrapping his arms around the other's waist.
"I asked you," he said bluntly, playfully dropping a helment onto
Lucius's head. Lucius squirmed, adjusting it and muttering something
about his hair. Raven then adjusted his own and started the machine,
causing Lucius to stop smoothing out his hair and regain his grip on
the other man.
They rode down the road, Lucius yelling over the wind, "Well, I
suppose I wouldn't mind stopping for some ice cream..."
"Then ice cream it is," Raven yelled back over his shoulder as they
sped down the road.
It was about ten minutes before they reached a place that sold the
frozen treat. Since it was already late fall quite a few of the ice
cream places that were everywhere in the summer had closed, making it
a bit difficult to find one. Finally, the found a suitable place and
Raven pulled over, the rev of the motorcycle's engine dying down.
Lucius removed his helmet, quickly raking his fingers through his long
hair as Raven slid off the motorcycle, extending a hand to help Lucius
dismount. He gratefully took the offered hand and joined the other man
on the sidewalk.
Happy that Raven did not let go of his hand after Lucius had safely
made it from motorcycle to sidewalk, he squeezed the other's hand
lightly. Raven gave him an answering squeeze and an amused little
half-smile. Leading Lucius to the door of the small ice cream parlor,
Raven pushed the door open and stepped inside.
There was a faint creamy smell as they stepped into the parlor, but
Raven did not notice in favor of Lucius's hair. Almost obsessively, he
helped pat it down after the wind put it into disorder, letting the
light scent billow into his face. Lucius gave it a soft swish,
tugging Raven over to the counter.
Lucius examined the menu posted on the wall behind the counter for a
moment before the waitress came up and asked them what they wanted.
"One mint chocolate chip cone, please," Lucius smiled at her before
glancing over at Raven, who was still busy with his hair. Now that it
had all been smoothed down, Raven began twisting the gold locks idly
around his fingers.
"Raymond," Lucius tugged his hair out of the other's hands.
"Hm?" Raven glanced up and at the waitress, "Oh...one rocky road cone,
please." He ordered quickly.
When the waitress turned to go and fill their orders, Raven yanked
lightly on one of Lucius' locks, "I told you not to call me that in
pulbic..." He reminded, half glaring at the smaller man.
Lucius pouted, "But I like it!"
"You're so childish..." Raven said with a sigh.
"Yes," Lucius smiled playfully, "you've told me before." Raven stared
at him for a bit, patting his hair some more with some sort of
solemness; before Lucius, in an attempt to lighten him up, added, "You
should really enjoy your youth, you know."{1}
"I do."
Lucius gave him a look but let the subject drop, pulling up a chair
for himself and tugging at Raven for him to join him. Raven followed
suit, resting his head on his own hands. "But I do find it unlike you
not to ask me 'what's wrong?' in that cheerful tone of yours...."
"Raymond," Lucius sighed, "I have. You refused to answer me."
"Oh." He simply looked out of the window, where two girls were playing
with each other's bra. It got to the point where one snapped the
other's bra, and the latter girl screamed and chased the former down
the sidewalk. Raven made a face, looking back at Lucius's amused face.
...Of course, that meant looking at Legault's face, too, as the local
horny waiter cared to join them.
"Why Raven," he slurred, "I never knew you cared for such diversions."
He handed them their orders, but refused to leave.
"I don't choose what goes on outside," he grumbled, jerking his head
toward the window.
"I think it's sweet," Lucius said serenely, casting a small smile in
the direction of the girls before turning crimson and looking away.
Raven gave him a look that clearly said that Lucius was either naive
or stupid and Legault's ever-present smirk widened considerably.
"W-well, the fact that they're close enough to show their relationship
so openly in public is sweet," Lucius said hurriedly. "What they're
actually doing is...is..." He turned crimson again, searching for the
right word.
"Going to get them lynched..." Raven finished, muttering under his breath.
There, I think that's enough... happy V-day! ^_^
