Miscellaneous Musings
Dammit, looks like nobody has nominated Odyssey-5 for Yuletide. Although to date my ideas for that fandom center around Too Many Cooks Spoiling Broth--i.e., I'd love to be a space!fly on the wall watching Chuck Taggart settling down under Roj Blake's inspiring leadership. And Cally's warm delight in being called "Darling!" by Kurt Mendel. I was looking forward to offering it. (Cut for length)
However, I can definitely offer The Unusuals, Revenge, Magic Mike, and Cabin in the Woods, because they have been nommed by Persons Other Than Myself. To me, the advantage of Yuletide is exposure to a wider audience. There's the chance to get a story written in one of those "OMG I didn't know anybody except me ever saw/read that TV show/movie/anime/book!!" fandoms, but I'd feel a bit discouraged if I thought my potential audience was four people worldwide. Of course they might be four exceptionally awesome people worldwide. But still. So I suppose Game Theory would say that the best Yuletide strategy is to write in fandoms that are at the upward edge of eligibility, because then at least a reasonable number of people *might* read your story. So, in my case, that would be hoping that I match on Revenge rather than Cabin in the Woods or The Unusuals.
Whoo, can't wait for new Revenge next week! (Well, for them as what has TV sets, it's on this Sunday.) I can't help thinking that Grandpa Grayson's first name is Dick, and he's spent the hiatus trying to teach Nolan how to be Batman. I'm pretty sure it's not working--as I discovered in the course of crossover writing, Nolan makes Simon look like Chuck Norris.
I find that I am now writing two stories involving characters played by Matt Bomer.
Haven has started up again, although I found the first episode rather disappointing--Audrey wasn't nearly kick-ass enough. And I suppose the stuff that I thought of as "loose ends" is actually "setup for serialized elements of new season." But still.
