Om Nom Nom: For What is the Burger But Its Condiments?

...as the populace in Coriolanus might have said if they'd had burgers (or, indeed, a reliable source of any food).

Anyway, bearing in mind that in my hamburger-eating days I always put a lot of stuff on them, I bought a soft roll at the supermarket, turned thin-sliced tofu in a plate of cornstarch mixed with chickpea flour, seasoned with garlic pepper, and sauteed the tofu slices in olive oil. Most of the coating fell off and made a big mess in the pan. The finished slices look uncannily like chicken cutlets. I completed the sandwich with barbecue sauce and cole slaw. Quite a good sandwich (...although messy...) but perhaps the quasi-chicken theme would have been better served by Russian dressing and lettuce. I hardly ever put tomatoes on sandwiches, there's a very fine line at which tomatoes are ripe enough to have some taste but still firm enough to slice neatly.
