Om Nom Nom: Cutlets

I would already be in Double Deadline Month, when I'm expected to a) read the proofs for a 1500-page book, updating it as necessary, and b) make a year's worth of updates and changes in an 1800-page book. Except they didn't get around to sending me the proofs yet. I hope I can rely on the editor's assurances that the delay isn't going to be subtracted from the time available for Task A.

Anyway, except for some brief errands and a trip to the gym, I've been home theoretically working at the computer. Which means...cooking! (Cut for length)

I made a loaf of cracked wheat bread, and while it was rising I made a kimchi-sorta thing: grated daikon, grated cucumbers, grated salad turnips, with a spoonful of chili-garlic paste and some sesame oil. I drained off the liquid a couple of times, but I don't want to get it *too* dry.

Supper tonight: some of the astonishingly firm tofu from the greengrocer--they must make the stuff in a black hole--sliced horizontally into thin slabs, turned in cornstarch, pan-fried with lots of ginger, glazed at the last minute with some hoisin sauce. Served with plain rice and a side of quasi-kimchi.

Operation Cutlet worked beautifully texturally, although the thinner the slab, the better. I think I'll try coating the cutlets in panko and frying them in garlicky olive oil and either serving with barbecue sauce and a side of greens or making a hero sandwich.

I followed two of musesfool's recs for The Unusuals, and was surprised because the number of people leaving kudos exceeded what I would have estimated as the total number of fans who have ever *seen* The Unusuals. I must say that I am tempted to write that Magic Mike xover after all, on the off-chance of catching the "small new fandom where people will read ANYTHING" wave.
