Mixed-Media Snark: It's Raining Mendacity
Inspired by various entertainment news items, behind the cut in case any of this is a spoiler.
As a member of a generally scorned audience, I am delighted that Magic Mike made back seven times its negative cost in the first weekend. This--and the ability to rip off the stage version of The Full Monty--has led to much talk of a Broadway musical version. Or, I guess more realistically, something that closes in three days on Broadway but goes into rep with "Boeing, Boeing" at dinner theaters everywhere.
There is also supposed to be a Magic Mike 2 movie, although considering his lack of faith in his nighttime day job, it will probably feature lots of banging (of large timber offcuts) and screwing (of veneer to bookcases). The coping saw is his penis!
Apropos of building materials, there is also the possibility of Jeremy Renner playing Brick opposite ScarJo in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" on Broadway. Man, if ScarJo were in Black Widow mode, that play would be FIVE MINUTES LONG. Even if the little no-neck monsters really were monsters, she'd have them sorted, and if she says she's pregnant, I for one wouldn't have the nerve to call her a liar. But now I'm imagining all those rumors about Brick and Cap, leading him to recuperate at Agent Coulson's plantation (...inherited from a cellist...) although fortunately it's his ankle and not his bow arm that's broken.
