Meta: Hey...That Guy!
princessofgeeks has been collecting recs for SG1 stories that display a variety of characterizations of Daniel.
My theory is that for every fandom, there's at least one That Guy--the one who captures fandom's imagination, perhaps because he (it's usually male) is some combination of:
* richly characterized in canon
* OTOH, so thinly characterized in canon that you can say anything
* played by somebody really hot.
This person is often, but not necessarily, the LBD for the fandom, and often, but not necessarily, the punching bag. Because in fandom, it gets really hard to tell the difference. So, obviously, for SG1, Daniel is the (or a) That Guy. I surmise that for SGA, it's John; for SPN, it's Dean. For HP, it's Snape. For ST:TOS or reboot, it's Spock.
Long ago, I posted that it would be a hoot if there was a bar where all the Blakes and Avons as written by the various B7 writers could hang out--although I've always felt that it would be somewhat imbalanced because half of the Avons would be making out with each other.
