comment/email overload
8:04 PM 3/11/09 · This past Monday, so far as most of you may think, I made 2 or 3 posts. In actuality I made closer to 27, a mix of single and xposted stuff to various communities. This is actually about average for me given how I post.
I mostly write my content offline. Often when I can't sleep, periodically when a random notion hits me I'll jot it down in my PDA and eventually transcribe it in more detail to a text file, and/or while I'm watching television or listening to music.
I write just about all of my stuff through Windows notepad.exe cuz it's uncomplicated as all get out and I like it. That and view what icons and mood theme I'm currently using via ThumbsPlus!
Part of why I post so much is by the time I hit the library I've usually got about 10 or so posts ready to go, all specified as to where they're going and if they're going to be xposted or not. It's really just a matter of cutting & pasting, I rarely if ever write anything while I'm online.
Usually I post about ½ of what I've got ready to go before I hit my email. Library gives only about 2 hours of online time on any given day. I try to post so there's a good amount of time between the stuff to my own journal but don't much care how close together stuff is in whatever communities I'm posting to.
Monday and Wednesday of this week by the time I got into my email I had about 177 comments from livejournal. Both days I started about there and by the time I left the number hadn't gone down much. The influx of new comments was keeping the number up there while I processed through a hundred or so comments each day.
I get a shitload of comments. Then again I'm a member of about 500 communities so that's not such a huge surprise. Wednesday alone I had over 30 from the review of Watchmen I posted all over the bloody place.
Given there's a number of you that've traded phone numbers with me so that we can text each other, I periodically shock people that don't quite get why they post something and I tell them I can't check it out for a couple days. On average I'm usually online 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Part of why I get the comment overflow is because of the gap between days I'm online, the limited amount of time I'm online, and the fact most of my posts generate comments like crazy...
...as some of you can attest to. My friendslist is a fair mix of people I actually know, ones I've added because they seemed interesting to me, and those that've read my posts elsewhere and came back to my account to see what else my head rattles out every so often.
Despite the insanity of all this, I actually stay fairly well·adjusted as the massive comments make me think I matter. Maybe not much in the grand scheme of things but every little bit counts.
