Bukkake from the gods

I *was* going to put up my con report, but it seems there's something more recent to put up. Yesterday, starting in the ugly AM's, the skies opened up and proceeded to bukkake my area. Why is this important? I'll get to that.

Thursday evening, I went to the normal coffee event we have here in my area. Fine and dandy. Around 1 am is when I left, and several others left, including razorfoot.

So on Friday morning, right around 1:30 AM, I got a call from razorfoot. He had an accident. He told me he was in an accident. I asked how he was and how his car was. I got some vague details, and insisted on more. Finally I got info that his car only had side impacts, that the car was off the roadway, in the ditch, and that he couldn't get out on his own. Further details I got was that he didn't have roadside assistance. Since I've got AAA Gold, and I hardly ever use it, I told him I'll get him out, for him to call 911, and to stay in the car to stay warm.

That's when I left a message on IRC of "shit. Gotta go. Friend in car accident. BBL." Yeah, I could have left a more detailed message, but it was more important to get going. Fast forward to 2 AM. I already contacted AAA, but could have an active call until I was within 15 minutes of the scene. Fast forward more. 2:15, driving down the interstate. Now most of the time people go 80 MPH down the highway. (It's 65) This time, due to blinding snow conditions and worsening roads, the most people were doing was 50.

Fast forward even more. 2:35. I'm approaching the accident site, AAA is on the way, and there's a cop where my friend was. He's sideways pointing nose down in the ditch with his lights on. This is where I pull up, assess the situation, tell my friend to stop his car, leave the lights on and get in mine. This is also the reason why I carry a minimum of 8 road flares in my car, as I left the first one out, waited until it burned out, tried a second one... That got blown out by the wind. And a third one... Blown out by the wind. Finally, as I was lighting the fourth one (and using it to light the previous two), it stayed lit. And a second cop showed up. As the second cop was there, tow truck shows up and after some time and one slip, the car is winched out. Tow truck driver starts heading out, and I get the griffy back in my car.

That's when a small adventure of tracking down the tow truck driver occurs, because visibility of flashing lights is under 400 feet, and I only know which road he turned on. After 10 minutes and several false alarms, we catch sight of the truck, and follow to the destination. The thought of putting the spare tire was raised upon which I nixed it, it being nearly 4 AM. So the more pressing thought of food was raised. After going 5 miles in the wrong direction we headed back, because I was hungering for FOOOD, and I knew there was a White Castle nearby. Well, I never found that White Castle, but we found a 24 hour Arbys. Good `nuff. Following that, I dropped him off at his place in Milwaukee, and I headed back to my place. By the way, his version of the events can be found Here.

After that, I headed back home, and upon hitting this location (opens maps.google.com), I found people going 10 MPH and STILL sliding sideways. The location is the interstate, headed west, just before it splits off. That's how bad the roads were. I willingly pulled in to the shoulder and started helping other people out of the shoulder and back on to the road. *sigh* You'd think they would buy snow tires and remember their snow skills. But this storm caught everyone by surprise. Sadly, I was the only one who got in the shoulder and could get out on his own. I got home, napped a few hours, tried to go to work... And found the snow was so high that when I backed up, it lifted the back end of my car off the ground.

But I still got to work, however late.
