AJR, who consist of siblings Adam Met, Jack Met, and Ryan Met, are an American pop trio of vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, and songwriters. In the band, Adam is on vocals, bass guitar, percussion, and programming; and is also an academic and climate activist. Jack is on lead vocals, guitar, sampler, ukulele, drums, percussion, cowbell, horn, banjo, melodica, and programming; and has also acted, as Jack Metzger. Ryan is on vocals, bass guitar, piano, ukulele, sampler, production, and programming. They were originally known as TB3 (Tapping Brothers to the Third Power).<\/p>\n

They are the children of Laurie Marvald, an architect and entrepreneur, and Gary Metzger, an architect. They are from New York, and were raised in Bayside, Queens, and later Chelsea, Manhattan.<\/p>\n

AJR’s paternal grandfather was Bernard Metzger (the son of Charles Metzger and Beatrice Kaplan). Bernard was born in New York City, to Jewish emigrants. Charles was born in Lviv, Ukraine. Beatrice was born in Podlaskie, Poland.<\/p>\n

AJR’s paternal grandmother was Marilyn Liggetts\/Legatz (the daughter of Herman Liggetts\/Legatz and Rose Anderson\/Andersen). Marilyn was born in New York City, to Jewish emigrants. Herman was born in Bielsk Podlaski, Poland, and had ancestors from Belarus. Rose was born in Russia.<\/p>\n

AJR’s maternal grandfather was Meyer Max Marvald (the son of Israel Marvald\/Merwald and Rachel\/Ruchla Lindenbaum). Meyer was born in New York, to Jewish parents from Liuboml, Ukraine. Israel was the son of Meyer Marvald and Bessie.<\/p>\n

AJR’s maternal grandmother was Lillian Friedman (the daughter of Isidor Friedman and Helen Gruenstein). Lillian was born in Pennsylvania, to Slovak Jewish parents. Isidor was the son of Elia Friedman and Celia.<\/p>\n
