One of Thornton’s paternal great-grandfathers, Samuel Washington, was a colonial American officer, whose own older brother, George Washington<\/a>, was the 1st President of the United States. Sof\u00eda’s great-grandmother Mar\u00eda was the daughter of Jos\u00e9 de Jes\u00fas Mar\u00eda L\u00f3pez L\u00f3pez and Mar\u00eda Guti\u00e9rrez P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda’s maternal grandmother is Ofelia Garza Sep\u00falveda (the daughter of Leopoldo Garza Ondarza and Mar\u00eda Ofelia Sep\u00falveda Trevi\u00f1o). A picture of Leopoldo can be seen here<\/a>. Leopoldo was a health director, and was the son of Santiago Garza Padilla and Mar\u00eda Josefa Ondarza Garza.
