Lucas Hedges is an American actor. He is known for his roles in the films Arthur Newman<\/em>, Moonrise Kingdom<\/em>, The Zero Theorem<\/em>, The Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em>, Manchester by the Sea<\/em>, Lady Bird<\/em>, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri<\/em>, mid90s<\/em>, Boy Erased<\/em>, Ben Is Back<\/em>, Honey Boy<\/em>, Waves<\/em>, French Exit<\/em>, Let Them All Talk<\/em>, and Shirley<\/em> (2024); on the show The Slap<\/em>; and in stage plays.<\/p>\n

Lucas is the son of Susan Bruce (Titman), a poet and actress, and Peter Hedges<\/a> (Peter Simpson Hedges), a novelist, playwright, writer, and director. His parents were among the wave of artistic professionals who settled in Brooklyn in the 1990s. He was raised in Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill.<\/p>\n

His parents married in an Episcopalian ceremony.<\/p>\n

Lucas and Dev Patel<\/a> are the first males born in the 1990s to have been nominated for an Academy Award for acting (both were nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 2016 films, Lucas for Manchester by the Sea<\/em> and Dev for Lion<\/em>). Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> is the first person born in the decade to have been nominated for Best Actor, in 2017.<\/p>\n

Lucas’s paternal grandfather was The Rev. Robert Boyden Hedges (the son of Walter Raleigh\/Rollie Hedges and Rachael\/Rachel Boyden). The Rev. Robert was born in Iowa, and was an Episcopalian minister. Walter was the son of Osage Orange Hedges, whose father was English, and of Louisa Jane\/Jennie Palmer. Rachael was the daughter of Samuel Frederick Boyden and Lola Leetta\/Letta Lambert.<\/p>\n

Lucas’s paternal grandmother was Carole\/Carol Joan Simpson (the daughter of Henry Ray Simpson and Lila\/Leila Loie Krouse). Carole was born in Colorado. Henry was the son of John Clayton Simpson and Willie\/Willa Howard Kimbel. Lila was the daughter of Charles\/Charley Krouse, who was of German descent, and of Maude\/Maud Nellie Noble.<\/p>\n

Lucas’s maternal grandfather is John DeWitt Titman, Jr. (the son of John DeWitt Titman and Sybil G. Weeks). Lucas’s grandfather John was born in New York, and is a former vice president in New York at Home Box Office (HBO). Lucas’s great-grandfather John was the son of Arthur LeVerne Titman and Katherine Theresa “Katie” Friend. Sybil was the daughter of Edwin Rogers Weeks and Grace Margaret Jillson. Sybil’s sister, Lucas’s great-great-aunt Barbara Weeks, was a radio actress.<\/p>\n

Lucas’s maternal grandmother is Narcissa Daniel Hargroves (the daughter of The Rev. Dr. V. Carney Hargroves, born Vernon Carney Hargroves, and of Narcissa Bruce Daniel). Lucas’s grandmother Narcissa was born in Virginia, and is a theatre director, lecturer, and choir director. Lucas’s great-grandfather The Rev. Dr. V. Carney was a Baptist minister who was president of the Baptist World Alliance. He was the son of Robert Tatum\/Tatem Hargroves and Emily Martha Carney. Lucas’s great-grandmother Narcissa was the daughter of Walter Eugene Daniel and Jeannette Eugenia Snead.<\/p>\n

Lucas’s matrilineal line can be traced to Letitia Clarke, who was born c. 1754.<\/p>\n
