Todd Phillips is an American film director, writer, producer, and actor. He has directed the films Road Trip (2000), Old School (2003), Starsky & Hutch (2004), School for Scoundrels (2006), The Hangover, Due Date (2010), The Hangover Part II, The Hangover Part III, War Dogs (2016), Joker (2019), and Joker: Folie à Deux. He co-wrote all of his films, other than the first The Hangover. He has also directed the documentaries Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies and Bittersweet Motel, and co-directed, as well as narrated, the documentary Frat House.
His father was was born in Blaby, Leicestershire, England, to Jewish immigrant parents. His maternal grandparents were Jewish emigrants, from what was then the Ottoman Empire. Todd was raised on Dix Hills, on Long Island, New York.
Todd’s paternal grandfather was Norbert E. Bunzl (the son of Josef Ewald Bunzl and Ella Metzl). Norbert was born in Prague, Czech Republic. He died in Israel. Josef was the son of Emanuel Bunzl and Johanna Karpeles. Ella was born in Kralupy nad Vltavou, Mělník District, Central Bohemian Region, the daughter of Karl Metzl and Bertha Neumann.
