Tim Minear is an American screenwriter and director. He was the showrunner of Firefly, and co-created the shows The Inside, Drive, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. He wrote and directed episodes of Firefly and The Inside, and wrote for the other three shows. He has also been a writer for the shows Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, The X-Files, Strange World, Wonderfalls, American Horror Story, and a writer and director for the shows Angel, Dollhouse, and Feud: Bette and Joan.

He was raised in Whittier, California.

Tim’s paternal grandfather was Lloyd Vesper Minear (the son of Nathan Osias Minear and Georgia Victoria Darnes). Lloyd was born in Ohio. Nathan was born in Indiana, the son of Charles Wesley Minear and Catherine Miller. Georgia was born in Missouri, the daughter of George A. Darnes and Margaret Ann Blackburn.

Tim’s paternal grandmother was Anna Pennock Laird (the daughter of Frank Judson Laird and Olivia Cadwallader Pennock). Anna was born in Pennsylvania. Frank was born in Minnesota, the son of Matthew James Laird and Lydia Louise Powers. Olivia was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Abraham Liddon Pennock and Anna M. Cadwallader/Cadwalader.

Tim’s maternal grandfather was Earl Edward Gotts (the son of William E. Gotts and Effie Estelle Williams). Tim’s grandfather Earl was born in Michigan. William was born in Methwold, Norfolk, England, the son of Edward Fuller Gotts and Mary Bennett. Tim’s great-grandmother Effie was born in Michigan, the daughter of Benjamin Edward Williams and Emma Francina Brown.

Tim’s maternal grandmother was Ethel May Bergman (the daughter of William Anderson Bergmann and Bertha Elizabeth May). Ethel was born in Kansas. William was born in Kansas, the son of Johan Christopher “Chris” Bergmann, who was born in Aš, Bohemia, and was of Austrian and German descent; and of Anna Barbara Eberle, who was German. Bertha was born in Kansas, the daughter of Charles Henry May and Mary Elizabeth Osthoff, whose parents were German.
