Stephen King is an American writer, director, and actor. He is known for his many horror novels and stories, including Carrie, The Shining, Cujo, Christine, Children of the Corn, and Pet Sematary. He has also been credited as Richard Bachman, John Swithen, and Beryl Evans.
Stephen is the son of Nellie Ruth (Pillsbury) and Donald Edwin King. His father, born under the surname Pollock, later used the surname King; he had also used his own stepfather’s surname, Szczepanski. His father was born in Peru, Miami, Indiana. His mother was born in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine. His family has Colonial American roots in Maine.
With his wife, author and activist Tabitha (Spruce) King, he has three children, Unitarian minister Naomi, and authors Joe Hill (born Joseph Hillstrom King) and Owen King.
Stephen’s paternal grandfather was William Edwin Pollock (the son of David Rittenhouse Pollock and Elizabeth Davis). William was born in Cass County, Indiana. David was born in Wisconsin, the son of John Pollock and Rosanna Maria/Marie Rittenhouse. Elizabeth was born in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware, the daughter of Nathan Davis, whose maternal grandfather was English; and of Martha Maston/Masten.
Stephen’s paternal grandmother was Helen Alethea Bowden (the daughter of William F. Bowden and Harriet R. “Hattie” Clear). Helen was born in Chili, Miami, Indiana. William was born in Jackson Township, Miami, Indiana, the son of William T. Bowden and Polly/Mary Ann Maness/Manis/Manness. Hattie was born in Roann, Wabash, Indiana, the daughter of Samuel S. Clear and Lovina/Lavina/Lavinia Nickols/Nichols/Nicholas.
Stephen’s maternal grandfather was Guy Herbert Pillsbury (the son of Howard Leavitt Pillsbury and Cecelia/Cecilia/Celia Media Foss). Guy was born in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine. Howard was born in Scarborough, the son of Charles Carl Pillsbury and Eunice M. Waterhouse. Cecelia was born in Saco, York, Maine, the daughter of Joseph Foss and Susan G. Robinson.
Stephen’s maternal grandmother was Nellie Western Fogg (the daughter of Arthur J./I./P. Fogg and Susan Ann Carter). Nellie was born in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine. Andrew, this will fill your heart with glee as well as Manila’s! I submitted two more Afrikaners – Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Riverdale’s Cheryl Blossom.
I submitted them both as Afrikaners (Dutch, German, probably other). Demi-Leigh’s mother’s maiden name is Steenkamp. I wonder if there is a close relation to Reeva Steenkamp?
Oh, Demi-Leigh and Madelaine probably have distant African, Indonesian, Indian, etc. ancestry like most Afrikaners.

In case you want to go deeper into his DNA results he is 68% European West, 8% Scandinavian, 3% Iberian, 2% Irish, 1% European East and less than 1% West Asia and the Caucuses. The rest I believe is from Great Britain which Henry Louis Gates Jr. expected Stephen King to have more ancestry from. I believe this was from ancestry DNA based off how they have British and Irish separately and have a category called “European West” also unlike 23andme.
99% European descent going back to the time of Columbus.
