Ryan Giggs is a Welsh professional footballer, and coach. A left midfielder and left winger, he played for Manchester United, and for England U16, the Wales national team, and the Great Britain Olympic team. He managed Manchester United, first in interim, then as assistant; and managed the Wales national team. He co-owns Salford City.
Ryan is the son of Lynne and Danny Wilson (Donald James Wilson), a rugby union and professional rugby league footballer. He was born Ryan Joseph Wilson, and took on his mother’s maiden name Giggs as a teenager. He has two children, including professional footballer Zach Giggs, with his former wife Stacey Cooke.
According to an interview, Ryan’s “father’s parents (or possibly their parents, he isn’t sure) were born” in Sierra Leone. Ryan’s father is said to have a black father and a white mother, and has also been described as being of Sierra Leone Creole background. Ryan’s paternal grandmother is pictured here.
Ryan’s maternal grandfather was Dennis F. Giggs (the son of Joseph J. Giggs and Eileen B. Thomas).
Ryan’s maternal grandmother was Margaret R. Sidaway (the daughter of Leonard Sidaway and Ellen Tatnell).
