Rod Woodson is an American professional football player, and coach. A cornerback and safety, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He was also a coaching intern for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Denver Broncos, a cornerbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders, for whom he was also assistant defensive backs coach; and head coach and general manager of the Vegas Vipers. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2009. He is regarded by many as the greatest cornerback in league history.

Rod was the son of Linda Jo, who worked with the handicapped, and James Alfred Woodson, a labourer. He is married to Nikki, with whom he has five children.

Ron’s paternal grandfather was Dennis Woodson (the son of John Henry Woodson and Jennie Crenshaw).

Ron’s paternal grandmother was named Helen Fitts.

Ron’s maternal grandfather was Walter Anthony Doerflein (the son of Charles Edward Doerflein and Mathilda Rose Wuestefeld).
