Richard Roxburgh is an Australian actor and filmmaker. His roles include the films Children of the Revolution, Oscar and Lucinda, The Last September, Passion (1999), Mission: Impossible 2, Moulin Rouge! (2001), The Touch (2002), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), Van Helsing (2004), Stealth, Fragile (2005), Matching Jack, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Sanctum, The Turning (2013), Maya the Bee, Hacksaw Ridge, Breathe (2017), Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan, H Is for Happiness, Angel of Mine, Elvis (2022), Force of Nature: The Dry 2, Eden, The Correspondent (2024), and Forgive Us All; and the series The Paper Man, Tracks of Glory, Seven Deadly Sins, Blue Murder, East of Everything, False Witness, Rake, Blue Murder: Killer Cop, The Hunting, Catherine the Great, Bali 2002, The PM’s Daughter, and Prosper. He directed the film Romulus, My Father.

Richard is the son of John and Mary Roxburgh, an accountant. He is married to Italian-Australian actress, opera singer, cookbook author, and television cookery show personality Silvia Colloca, with whom he has three children.

Richard’s paternal grandfather was Gilbert Handasyde Roxburgh (the son of Adam Roxburgh and Jane Eliza Watson). Gilbert was born in Ballarat, Victoria. Adam was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the son of Thomas F. Roxburgh, a Scottish emigrant, from Hamilton, Lanarkshire; and of Virtue Gillaird, who was an English emigrant, from Liverpool. Richard’s great-grandmother Jane was Scottish, the daughter of James Watson and Isabella Dobson.

Richard’s paternal grandmother was Eileen Mary Scott Dart Kelly (the daughter of Thomas Joseph Dart Kelly and Margaret Theresa Meaney). Eileen was born in Saint Kilda, Victoria. Thomas was an Irish emigrant, from County Waterford, and was the son of James Kelly and Mary Jane Dart. Margaret was born in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales, and likely was of Irish descent.

Richard’s maternal grandfather was William Edward McNuff (the son of Edward McNuff and Jane Robbins). William was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. Richard’s great-grandfather Edward was born in Shotley Bridge, Northumberland, England, the son of Johannem McNuff, who was from Newry, County Down, Ireland; and of Agnes Gallagher, who was born in Scotland. Richard’s great-grandmother Jane was the daughter of James Robbins, who was born in Wales, to English parents; and of Tamar Montgomery, who was English, from Dudley, Staffordshire.

Richard’s maternal grandmother was Mabel Victoria Dingwall (the daughter of William Dingwall and Catherine Cugley). Mabel was born in Albury, New South Wales. William was the son of Scottish emigrants, from Cromarty Firth, in Easter Ross, John Douglas Dingwall and Christina Chisholm. Catherine was the daughter of Thomas Frederick Cugley, who was English, from Dursley, Gloucestershire; and of Catherine McCann, who was from Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
