Phil Lord is an American filmmaker, producer, writer, and actor. His filmmaking partner is Christopher/Chris Miller; the two met at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Together, they created, showran, and were supervising directors and writers on, the sitcom Clone High. They have directed the films Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, 22 Jump Street, and Project Hail Mary, and also wrote the first and third-mentioned films; and were early directors of Solo: A Star Wars Story, before Ron Howard completed the film. They also wrote The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, co-wrote Extreme Movie and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, directed episodes of the show The Last Man on Earth, wrote episodes of Method & Red and How I Met Your Mother, and created the Unikitty! character in The Lego Movie; inspiring its own television series. Without Miller, Phil co-wrote the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The two have had voice roles in many of their projects. They formed Lord Miller Productions.
Phil’s father was in the aviation business and directed the dance company Fusion, and his mother is a psychologist. His father has deep roots in Colonial New England; Massachusetts and Maine, and is of mostly English, as well as Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, Welsh, and remote French Huguenot and Dutch, descent. His mother is from a Cuban family. On his mother’s side, he is a cousin of television producer and director Anthony Dominici.
Phil’s paternal grandfather was William Walcott Lord (the son of John Anderson Lord and Elinor Lawton Carter). William was born in Maine. John was born in Massachusetts, the son of Charles William Lord and Anne Hichborn Anderson. Elinor was born in Massachusetts, the daughter of John Carter and Isabella/Isabel Walcott Ward.
Phil’s paternal grandmother was abstract painter and sculptor Fonchen Lord (born Florence Richardson Usher, the daughter of Roland Greene Usher and Florence Wyman Richardson). Fonchen was from Missouri. Roland was born in Massachusetts, the son of Edward Preston Usher and Adela Louise Payson. Phil’s great-grandmother Florence was born in Missouri, the daughter of James Albert Richardson and Florence Wyman.
Two of Phil’s maternal great-grandparents were Pedro Estanislao Betancourt Dávalos and Haydee Lamar Capó. Pedro was born in the province of Matanzas, Cuba, and was a doctor, major general, diplomat, politician, and Cuban revolutionary in the Cuban War of Independence. He was the son of Juan Florencio Betancourt and Clotilde Dávalos. Haydee was also born in Matanzas.

His great-grandfather was Pedro Betancourt who was also his aforementioned cousin Anthony Dominici’s great-grandfather, though i don’t know if they are descended from him through the exact same grandparents (making them first cousins) or if one grandparent was the sibling of the other (making them second cousins)
