Noah Wyle is an American actor. His roles include the shows Blind Faith, ER, Sesame Street, Falling Skies, The Librarians, The Red Line, Leverage: Redemption, and The Pitt; the films Crooked Hearts, A Few Good Men, Swing Kids, There Goes My Baby, The Myth of Fingerprints, Can’t Stop Dancing, Donnie Darko, Scenes of the Crime, Enough (2002), White Oleander, The Californians, Nothing But the Truth, An American Affair, W. (2008), Queen of the Lot, Snake & Mongoose, The World Made Straight, Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, and Shot (2017); and the made-for-tv movies Guinevere (1994), Pirates of Silicon Valley, Fail Safe (2000), The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines, and The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice. He has also been a writer and director on The Librarians, Leverage: Redemption, and The Pitt.

Noah is the son of Marjorie, a nurse, and Stephen Wyle, an electrican engineer and entrepreneur. His stepfather was film historian and restorationist James C. Katz. Noah’s paternal grandparents founded the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. Noah’s grandfather, Frank S. Wyle, founded government services company Wyle Laboratories. Noah’s grandmother, Edith R. Wyle, was a prominent artist and arts patron, who created The Egg and The Eye cafĂ© and shop in L.A. His paternal grandparents had a ranch in North Fork, California, where he was partly raised. He is a cousin of artist Sonia Romero. His father and her mother were siblings.

Noah’s father was Jewish. His mother was Episcopalian. He has stated:

I was raised fairly nondenominationally… while I don’t think that everything I learned [from a rabbi friend, as an adult] was only about Judaism, I do embrace a lot of aspects of Judaism… I learned about my religion as an adult in his twenties. That’s a prevailing theme in my life. Most of my expensive education was wasted on me as a youth.

Noah is married to Sara Wells. He has two children with his former wife, make-up artist Tracy Warbin; and a daughter with Sara.

Noah’s paternal grandfather was Frank Strausser Weil/Wyle (the son of Clarence Harry Weil/Wyle and Frances/Fannie Strausser). Frank was born in Illinois. Clarence was born in Illinois, the son of Henry Weil, a Jewish emigrant who was born in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany; and of Hannah/Henni May, who was born in Virginia, to German Jewish parents. Noah’s great-grandmother Frances was also born in Illinois, the daughter of Frank Strausser and Sophia Gans, and had Dutch Jewish ancestry.

Noah’s paternal grandmother was born Edith Natalie Robinson (the daughter of Louis Robinson and Rose/Rosalia C. Rubin/Robinovitch). Edith was born in San Francisco, California, to musician parents. Louis was born in Connecticut, to Russian Jewish parents, Samuel Rovinsky/Robinson and Anna. Louis was a member of the Persinger String Quartet and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra; and also worked for Hollywood studios. Noah’s great-grandmother Rose was born in New York, also to Russian Jewish parents, Nathan Rubin/Robinovitch and Ida/Edith.

Noah’s maternal grandfather was Alexander Burns Speer (the son of James Howard Speer and Anna F./Elizabeth Burns). Alexander was born in Pennsylvania. James was the son of Noah Quincy Speer and Ailene Bugher. Anna was the daughter of Alexander C./J. Burns and Sarah Ann McGhee, who were Irish.

Noah’s maternal grandmother was Marjorie Mills (the daughter of George Pemberton Mills and Margaret Daly Shryock). Marjorie was born in Pennsylvania. George was the son of George William Mills and Mary/Marie Pemberton. Margaret was the daughter of Richard Prewitt Shryock and Mary Agnes van Arsdale.
