Nick Mallett is a South African rugby union player, coach, and media pundit. A number eight, he played for Western Province, Oxford University RFC, Rugby Rovigo, Saint-Claude, and Boulogne-Billancourt, and Springboks, the South Africa national team. He has coached Rugby Rovigo, Saint-Claude, False Bay Rugby Club, Boland Cavaliers, the South Africa national team, where he was also assistant coach; Stade Français, Italy, Barbarians, South African Barbarians, and World XV. He is 6′4″.

Nick is the son of Vivienne and Tony Mallett (Anthony William Haward Mallett), a school teacher, headmaster, and amateur cricketer, who played for Kent County Cricket Club and Oxford University, and became headmaster of Diocesan College in Cape Town. Nick moved to Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, with his family when he was six weeks old. They later relocated to Cape Town, South Africa.

Nick’s paternal grandfather was Wilfred Howard/Haward Mallett (the son of Walter Francis Mallett and Fannie/Fanny Anne Haward). Wilfred was born in Battersea, London, England. Walter was the son of William Mallett and Archangela Carolina Michelina De Nicolo, who was born in Rome, Italy. Fanny was the daughter of Charles Haward.

Nick’s paternal grandmother was Lucy Kathleen Honeysett (the daughter of Edgar W. Honeysett and Elizabeth Bird). Lucy was born in Beckenham, Kent, England. Edgar was born in East Sutton, Kent, the son of George Honeysett and Eliza Whatman. Elizabeth was born in Greenwich, Kent.

Nick’s maternal grandfather’s surname was Short.
