Her roles include the films The Darkest Minds, Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe, Marvelous and the Black Hole, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah; and the series American Housewife, Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Carnival of Doom (2019), The Astronauts, The Santa Clauses, Surfside Girls, Young Rock, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Miya was born in Tokyo, and adopted at five weeks old by an American couple. She was raised in Davis, Northern California. Her surname is of Czech origin. Her adoptive mother is Japanese-American. She has three adopted siblings, all from Japan and Kazakhstan.
