Her family lived in Turkey, China, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the U.S. Her first language is Japanese.

Mitski’s paternal grandfather was born in Utah, the son of British parents, surnamed Laycock and Blakemore/Blackmore. His paternal grandparents were Frank Laycock and Ellen Duckworth. His maternal grandparents were John Blakemore/Blackmore and Mary Ann Holdsworth.

Mitski’s paternal grandmother was born in Utah, the daughter of parents surnamed Mayhew and Hinckley. Mitski’s great-grandfather was born in Utah, the son of Elijah Walker Mayhew and Rosetta White.
