Mark is the son of Geraldine Lee (Finkelstein) and Milton Joseph Harelik. Mark’s parents were Jewish. Mark is married to actress/writer Spencer Kayden, with whom he has one child.
Mark’s paternal grandfather was Haskell Chatzkel Harelik (the son of Max/Mottel/Mordecai Harelik and Bailey M. Gorelik). Haskell was born in Belarus, then in the Russian Empire. Max was born in Parichi or Rechitsa, the son of Mynkeh Harelik and Minya Reva Garelik. Bailey was the daughter of Moshe Itzchak Itzhak Gorelik and Soralei.
