Jay DeMarcus is an American guitarist, bassist, vocalist, pianist, record producer, and songwriter. He is a member of contemporary country group Rascal Flatts, along with Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney.
His father, Stanley Wayne DeMarcus, Sr., is from Harlan County, Kentucky. His mother, Caron Eileen, is from West Virginia. Jay is married to Allison Alderson. Allison is a beauty queen, who was Miss Tennessee 1999 and Miss Tennessee USA 2002. He has three children, including two with Allison.
Jay’s patrilineal line can be traced to William Ellis Marquis, who was born, c. 1670, in Bergen op Zoom, North Brabant, Netherlands, the son of Petrus Intre Marquis and Barbe Turier; he had Dutch and French Huguenot ancestry.
Jay’s paternal grandfather was Ira Lee DeMarcus (the son of Jacob Winfield DeMarcus and Bertha J. Barley). Ira was born in Kentucky. Jacob was born in Union, Tennessee, the son of Bennett DeMarcus and Parley Smith. Bertha was born in Straight Creek, Kentucky, the daughter of George Preston Barley and Amanda J. Mullins.
