Ilia Malinin is an American competitive figure skater. He is nicknamed “Quad God.”

He is the son of Tatiana Malinina (Tatiana Valeryevna Malinina) and Roman Skorniakov, who are figure skaters and coaches. His parents moved to Dale City, Virginia, in 1998. His father was born in Sverdlovsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. His mother was born in Novosibirsk, Russian SFSR, and moved to Tashkent, Uzbek SSR (now Uzbekistan), as a teenager, later returning to Yekaterinburg, Russia. His father competed for Russia, before switching to Uzbekistan; he was a seven-time Uzbek national champion. His mother competed for Uzbekistan, and was the 1999 Four Continents champion and the 1999 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final champion, and a ten-time Uzbek national champion. His sister, Liza, is also a figure skater.

Ilia was born under his mother’s name, as his parents thought it simpler to pronounce. He speaks fluent Russian.

Ilia’s maternal grandfather is named Valery Malinin (Valery Pavlovich Malinin). Valery was a figure skater and coach, who competed for the USSR. He was the son of Pavel Malinin.

Ilia’s maternal grandmother was a gymnast.
