Eve Arden was an American actress, of film, radio, stage, and television, and a comedian. She performed in leading and supporting roles over nearly six decades. Her roles included the films Song of Love (1929), Oh, Doctor; Stage Door (1937), Cocoanut Grove, Having Wonderful Time, Letter of Introduction, Women in the Wind, Eternally Yours, At the Circus, Slightly Honorable (1939), No, No, Nanette (1940), Ziegfeld Girl, She Knew All the Answers, Bedtime Story (1941), Pan-Americana, Mildred Pierce (1945), The Kid from Brooklyn, Night and Day (1946), The Arnelo Affair, Song of Scheherazade, The Unfaithful (1947), The Voice of the Turtle, One Touch of Venus, Paid in Full (1950), Curtain Call at Cactus Creek, Tea for Two, Three Husbands, Goodbye, My Fancy; We’re Not Married!, The Lady Wants Mink, Our Miss Brooks, Anatomy of a Murder, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Sergeant Deadhead, The Strongest Man in the World, Grease, Under the Rainbow, Pandemonium (1982), and Grease 2; the series Our Miss Brooks, The Eve Arden Show, The Red Skelton Show, and The Mothers-in-Law; and the mini-series The Dream Merchants.

She was the daughter of Lucille, a milliner, and Charles Peter Quedens. Her grandparents were all born in Germany. Eve was married to actor Brooks West, until his death. She had four children, including one with her former husband Edward Grinnell “Ned” Bergen; and two with Brooks.

Eve’s paternal grandfather was Charles Henry Augustus Quedens (the son of Nanning Georg Quedens and Dorothea Amalie Wilhelmine Dreis). Charles was born in St. Pauli, Hamburg. Nanning was born in Norddorf, the son of Georg Hinrich Hark Quedens and Thur Nahmens Peters, who were from Amrum, Schleswig-Holstein. Dorothea was born in Hamburg, the daughter of Daniel Dreis and Dorothea Christine Verdick.

Eve’s paternal grandmother was Lucie Margarethe/Meta Diercks/Dierks (the daughter of Hinrich Diercks and Maria Catharina Wilders). Lucie was born in Bremen.

Eve’s maternal grandfather was named Bernard Frank.

Eve’s maternal grandmother was named Louisa Mehrtens/Mertens.
