David Grisman

David Grisman is an American mandolinist, bluegrass musician, and record producer. He founded the Acoustic Disc record label. He is also known as “Dawg,” and created a genre he has called “Dawg music,” combining bluegrass, folk, and jazz. In 2023, he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame.

His father was a professional trombonist. David was raised in Conservative Judaism.

He is married to Tracy Bigelow. He has three children, including bassist and recording session musician Samson Grisman and filmmaker Gillian Grisman.
