Dave Roberts is an American professional baseball player, and manager. An outfielder, he played for the Cleveland Indians, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Boston Red Sox, the San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He manages the Los Angeles Dodgers, and previously managed the San Diego Padres, of whom he was also coach. He is the first person of color to manage the Dodgers, and the first Asian-American baseball manager to win a World Series. He is nicknamed “Doc.”

Dave was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, the son of Eiko (Ikehara) and Waymon DeWitt Roberts, a U.S. Marine stationed in Japan. His father was born in Texas, and is African-American. His mother is Japanese. Ikehara is typically an Okinawan name. He was raised on several military bases, including in California, North Carolina, and Hawaii, eventually settling in San Diego, CA. Dave is married to Tricia, with whom he has two children, including Cole, who has played college baseball. He is a Christian.

Dave’s paternal grandfather was named James Roberts. James was born in Texas, as were his parents.
