Caylee’s paternal grandfather likely was Vernon Richard Cowan (the son of James Fred Cowan and Irma Marie Thies/Thier). James was the son of Frank R. Cowan, whose paternal grandparents were Irish, and of Lena Gilbert, whose father, and maternal grandparents, were German. Irma was born in Austria.
