Remind Yourself
Tie a little string on your finger
It’s easy for the world and your life to feel too big. So much comes at us, especially when news and social channels force our faces into far too much information, and everything around us pushes into overstimulation. I’m sensitive to it. I get spun up and can’t really focus well. (ADHD doesn’t help, either. Nor depression. Blah blah.)
Sometimes, it all feels too big. Too much.
We Choose the Bite
We can decide to stop watching the news for a bit. We can choose to close the Twitter tab, Instagram, whatever. We can pour a nice drink, open our journal, and write: “I am here.” Then, add: “Here’s the size of my bite right now.” And write it out. What needs doing now? Keep it brief. Shut out all the rest. Push whatever you must to “later” or “never.”
Seek Trust and Human Connection
Find your kind. I was just reading that there’s a massive push back to “chosen families” of late. Intentional living. Small pockets of competence. One expression of entertainment and fiction that gathers this together is called “solarpunk.” I went on quite a deep dive , but if you just want to see some pretty visuals, that’s cool too.
The intention behind the aesthetics is that some people want to appreciate intentional choices, agency on a smaller level, little wins. The movie (and book) The Martian is part of this movement.
And in there, like I said, is an intention to connect with people who want the world to heal, and who want to be an active part in learning what that takes.
It Was a Nice Reminder
Between right now and going back in the soil, we can shape and choose what we do. We can select how we move through this time. We own the opportunity to pour into (and drink deeply from) whichever sources we want.
I choose growth, intention, connection, trust, and all the warm things that come from being around people who want to make and build something useful.
What would you choose? And will you make the world a bit smaller around yourself?
I’m so curious to know what you think. Hit reply and let me know.
