    From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *təŋaq with fossilized *gi- prefix (cf. Cebuano gi-). Compare Ilocano tengnga (middle), Kapampangan pitna (halve), Central Bikol tanga (between), Cebuano tunga (half, middle, center), Waray-Waray butnga (middle), Tausug tunga' (half), and Malay tengah (mid, amid).
