Bangladesh’s proposed “Telecommunications Ordinance 2025” remains open to amendments based on stakeholder feedback, a senior official said on Tuesday (November 11).

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser responsible for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, disclosed the matter at a stakeholder consultation hosted by the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the BTCL conference room in Dhaka.

He also said the draft introduces several fundamental, contemporary changes to existing laws and policies, including a prohibition on shutting down internet access.

He added that the government expects the reforms to strengthen transparency, accountability and the protection of citizens’ rights across the sector, while stressing that additions and deletions could still be made in light of stakeholder input.

The meeting was chaired by Abdun Naser Khan, secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, and attended by heads and representatives from relevant agencies alongside other stakeholders.

The draft ordinance has been published on the division’s website for public review. Comments may be submitted until 15 November by email to secretary@ptd.gov.bd or by post to: Secretary, Posts and Telecommunications Division, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka.
