Google adds 'Nano Banana' AI to Slides and Vids for image editing

Google has introduced a new AI model called Nano Banana to its Workspace apps, equipping Google Slides and Google Vids with the ability to edit images using simple text instructions.

This upgrade, part of the Gemini AI integration, marks a bold step toward more intuitive visual workflows, opening up new creative possibilities for students, creators, and professionals.

In a recent update to Google Workspace, Nano Banana replaces the previous image editing model in Slides and Vids, offering improved quality, more consistent edits, and smoother behavior. According to Google, the new model is derived from core advances also seen in the Gemini app, and is known for improved “character consistency” and realistic image generation.

One of the most powerful additions is the ability to use custom prompting rather than being limited to preset filters or effects. Users can now select an image inside a slide or video project, click Edit image, and simply type what they want in plain language. For example, one might say: “Place this product at the Motijheel metro station in Dhaka,” and the model will generate a new image with that background, ready for use in the slide.

Availability and Limitations
Google says the feature will be rolled out gradually. It’s intended primarily for paid Workspace subscribers, as well as users under Google AI Pro for Education, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra plans. Although the results are impressive, perfect output is not guaranteed — clear instructions and occasional manual tweaks may still be required.
For creators and students alike, Nano Banana promises a faster route to professional visuals in presentations and video projects. It lowers the barrier for users who may lack design skills but want custom, visually rich work.
