Mingling irony and absurdity, Mayura Torii’s first solo exhibition at the 22,48m² gallery, « Artiste au travail », explores the value of labour, the artwork, and the artist through a multi-layered approach.

“I’m from Japan, a country where hard work and perseverance are socially valued, and where success is often linked to a form of hidden suffering. This culture of ‘meritorious work’ shapes my artistic practice, whether consciously or not.”
The artist brings attention to both visible and invisible forms of labour. Moving between seriousness and derision, the exhibition examines the mechanisms that shape how we see art and those who make it.
