P.S. Any fellow Babylon 5 fans on my f-list? I just heard about the latest in the string of B5-related misfortunes. Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) died on the 13th, of lung cancer. He was only 59. ;_; This makes the third (that I know of) B5 death in the last couple of years...first Rick Biggs (Stephen Franklin) and then Tim Choate (Zathras), both of whom were also way too young to die...this is crazy stuff. Do we call a Babylon 5 curse? O_o

Technical Question

Okay, another question for any of you out there who are more savvy with computers than I am...

I recently downloaded a particular video file (One Piece 82, if you're curious), and now I would like to delete it. But I can't delete it. It's pulling the good old "this file is in use by another person or program and cannot be deleted" story, and refuses to let me delete it. I've tried everything, and nothing's working. I've done the following, and none of them have worked:

- Closed every running program on my computer except windows, and shut off my Internet connection, so there should be no conceivable way for another program or person to be using the file.
- Restarted.
- Shut down, left the computer off for a day, and turned it back on.
- All of the various windows scans.
- All of the various spyware scans.
- Virus scans.
- Attempted to delete from a 'search' rather than in Windows Explorer.
- Copied it to another folder, which resulted in me being able to delete the original, but now the copy file, in My Documents rather than Sysreset Downloads, refuses to delete.
- Tried cutting and pasting (it also refuses to do this, and gives the same reason).
- Prayed to every idol I could think of to do something, up to and including striking my computer with lightning, but as of yet, no such luck.

So, like, WTF? I don't want a random 240MB file sitting on my computer simply because the friggin' thing doesn't want to let go of it. Is there any way I can get around this? I just want the thing GONE. Is that so much to ask for!? *whines* Is there some secret trick anyone could teach me to tame my computer?

ETA: Thanks guys...your comments gave me the idea of uninstalling my codec packs in case they had become corrupted, and yup...that worked. File is deleted! We beat the system again! MWAHAHAHA!

1) Was 2005 a good year for you?
Nope, 'fraid not. Probably the worst of my life.

2) What was your favorite moment of the year?
Spending time with Kerrie, Rynn, Britt, Ojies and Nevi. ^_^

3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Almost every other moment. ^^;;;

4) Where were you when 2005 began?
I think I was at my friend Mel's house. ^^

5) Who were you with?
Yes, now I remember...I *was* at Mel's house, with Mel, Cat and Mike, drinking apple cider and watching Pirate of the Carribean. ;P

6) Where will you be when 2005 ends?
I was at kerrie13's house with her, idimmu, shiva_chan, nivella, and flashboy.

7) Who will you be with when 2005 ends?

8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2005?
I don't think I had any...oh, wait, according to this I had resolved to get admitted to a mental institution. ;P Well, I didn't keep that resolution, but only just barely! I was admitted to the emergency ward for for assessment to go into the ward in the summer, but was deemed just stable enough to remain at home (however, I did have to go into the hospital for half a day every Monday and Wednesday for group therapy and regular assessment). More recently, my parents and doctors had decided that I should be admitted to the ward for the foreseeable future with a day pass each day to attend my classes, but after sufficient begging that I wanted to be free enough to visit my friends and renewed promises that I will continue to attend regular treatment, I was again allowed to stay home.

But who knows, I might just make that resolution yet. ^^;;;

That entry also declares that my real resolution was to finish the fics I was supposed to finish for Christmas 2004. Um, yeah...still haven't done that. ^^; Thank God for onedeadbunny...

Hm...'Homicide' by Daly and Wilson. I read it as a textbook for class, and it was literally one of the better texts I've read. It was written well and concisely in accessible language, unlike most textbooks. It also dealt well with very controversial subject matter, and I always appreciate that.

Christmas Sims

Well, I promised a kind of belated present, and here it is. The last time I posted pictures from my Hellsing Sims house (which can be found here if you missed 'em) they turned out to be sort of popular, so for Christmas (I was supposed to post this closer to the season, of course ^^;;;) I set up a Christmas house and started snapping pictures. ;P This house includes the Hellsing family and also Robin and Amon from Witch Hunter Robin.

WARNING: Naturally, this post contains simulated nudity and graphic sexual situations. If you're underage or uninterested, don't click the cut. ;P I also have to warn that there are big scary penises towards the end...I changed my nudes because I find these ones hysterically funny. ^^;

This month’s ‘download allotment’ (I have to keep track of what I download, due to being on shaw’s watchlist…^^;;;) is going towards One Piece, so I’m hoping to catch up on that fairly soon too. ^_^

I started to watch Excel Saga, as promised after the results of the last poll, only to discover that the copies I had were corrupt. -_- So, I had to get it over again. I’ll start again now. ^^;;;

I’ve also been gaming, for the first time in quite a while. Again, as per the last poll, I’ve been playing Xenogears. I think I’m quite far…I’ve just destroyed the Gates and I’m about to storm Solaris. Playing it has reminded me just how much I love gaming…I really need to allow myself more time for it. ;P

So, with this renewed gamer-passion in mind, along with something shiva_chan recently said that had my mind on these particular games, I chose to use a portion of my Ralph bucks (non-Alberta residents, feel free to ask for clarification ;P) on the Suikoden games. I bought them as a lot, games I-IV. I’m very excited about it, but of course, this means that I now will have two copies of IV, because I had already bought it from Britt. *LOL* Anyone want to buy a slightly-used copy of Suikoden IV? ^^;;; (Actually, I have a few things lying around that I want to gather up and try to sell off…might make a post about that in the near future.)

BTW, shiva_chan, once it gets here I’d be happy to let you borrow my copy of Suikoden II. ;P I recall you saying that was the one you didn’t have yet…

Now, about writing. I’ve been doing bits and pieces, on and off. My inspiration is unreasonably random, and I’ve noticed that it tends to follow the cycle of my depression ups and downs. Argh. ^^; One more reason to try to get my act together, obviously, as I seriously want to get moving on my fics.

Anyway, might post some stuff soon…again, it’s on the laptop. ^^;;; *LOL*

Speaking of posting stuff, as I’ve recently been organizing things on my computer and burning stuff to DVD, I’ve finally started to realize the scope of my ‘collection’, so to speak (music, manga, anime, other such goodies). I assume there would be some interest in me uploading some stuff…do I assume correctly? ;P

I don't know what it is about this winter, but everything is significantly more staticky than I'm used to it being, including in the winter. It's bad enough when my clothes stick to me and my blankets give me shocks, but when my hair reaches for everything I pass by and sometimes looks like I just stuck my hand in a socket, I get *very* unhappy. *poutpout* Argh. (<---I bet I use that word more than absolutely any other.) ;P

Last week dad and I finished watching Witch Hunter Robin...I don't know if I mentioned I was showing it to him, but I was. I had put it on on Hallowe'en to get in the spirit of the evening, and he watched it with me, and got hooked, so we watched the rest. ;P Anyway, now we've moved on to Vandread. I'm curious to know what he'll think of this one. So far I think he's pretty unsure, but we'll see. *LOL*

Vandread is fascinating for me, though...every time I watch it (which is quite a few times, now) I spot something new, something I hadn't realized or totally understood on my previous viewings. It's just so...detailed. A very richly detailed world and characters that you just keep understanding more about with each viewing. I love stories like that. ;P

Nothing new in my life, but to make this appear to be a useful entry, I'll just give a rundown:
- Two finals over, one left to go and it should be easy. Whether it'll be easy to pass or easy to fail, I'm not sure.

- I've been writing a lot of ~~high class literature~~ smut, which is nice since I'd been feeling blocked for ages. What can I thank for the block loosening? Watching hentai at late hours. Seriously. It may be bad, it may be hilariously bad...but it is inspiring nonetheless. Anyway, been working on various stuff...mostly IntegraxAlucard, BCxMeia, and a bit of AmonxRobin. Lately it seems I'm all het and bothered, yo. But have no fear, someday I will see the light again. (Probably tomorrow.)

- How the hell did this much time pass and I haven't watched any anime save for a couple of hentai since the last time I posted!? WTF!?

- Oh yeah, I know how...I've been watching WAY too much TV. Lately I've been going through a sicko mode of watching all the forensic shows with great fascination. Two comments on that: 1.) Holy crap, why do they show so many murder shows so close to Christmas? Should I be worried? Should I be worried that I'm watching them all in great marathon sessions? 2.) I really, really feel like reading a few dime detective novels. The craving is EATING ME AWAY. Obviously one of these days I should drag myself off my ass, go out into ~~the library in the~~ family room, and grab a few to read.

- Speaking of the hentai...one of them was 'Meiking', which was cute (in a sickening way) and hilarious (in a "My God I can't believe how pathetic/bad this is" way), and I predictably fell head over heels in love with the character Chiffon. Even in such unlikely circumstances, the antisocial silver-haired bish manages to charm the pants right off me. (Not literally, but damn close.) The fact that she's a mage is only a double bonus. Perhaps some day I shall write a silly fanfic crossing over the decent characters from hentai otherwise entirely devoid of anyone interesting. Speaking of which, I think if I hear Yuuji Ueda talking dirty one more time, I'll...have heard Yuuji Ueda talking dirty one more time. GOD, he does that a lot. Hm...I really love them all, but for my absolute favorite, I think it'd be a tie between 'O Come All Ye Faithful' and 'O Holy Night'. I really love those two, for some reason. ^^

We have an artificial tree, and I really dislike it. One of my favorite parts of Christmas every year when I was a kid was the wonderful smell of pine filling the house. Also, my parents claimed they got an artificial tree in the first place because it makes less of a mess, but frankly, the damn thing loses way more of its stupid paper needles than the real ones ever did, and they're harder to get out of the carpet, too. (They thread their way in there. -_-) On the other hand, I'm aware of the insane number of evergreens that get sacrificed to Christmas every year, so I'm begrudgingly glad to be doing my part to lower the number.

4. Eggnog, mulled cider, or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate, although I enjoy them all. ^_^

My favorite Christmas tradition in general has to be the giving of gifts, which is why I'm so upset with myself for not keeping enough money to participate in that this year. (Although my parents have provided me with some money to get Christmas presents for people...bless them. I'm so pathetic. ;_;) My favorite family tradition is our Christmas brunch. In my family we actually have the big turkey dinner on Boxing Day, because on Christmas day we have a nice big brunch of all sorts of lovely extravagant foods (nothing big, just nibbling stuff but expensive) that we can't normally afford, like funky cheeses, pate, pickled herring, various types of olives, and so on. It's my favorite part of the day. ^^

I, like many people, notice my depression a lot more, and it comes on a lot more randomly, during the Christmas season. It's not Seasonal Affective, because it's only around Christmas, not winter. It could be a loneliness thing...I'm not sure.

When the snow is nice and hard and packed, I enjoy walking on it, testing it to see if/when it will break under my boots. ^^ When I was a kid, I was really fond of rolling enormous snow balls...I don't know if that was just a thing at my school or if it's common, but we would roll snow balls, and I mean we would roll them until they were bigger than ourselves, just rolling them around the schoolyard picking up all the snow until they were enormous. ^_^

You know, I really don't remember...although I do remember when I lost my faith in Santa Claus. When I was eight years old, I went through this incredibly obsessive phase (which of course I never do anymore ;P) where I was in love with mermaids, and I really badly wanted to be a mermaid myself. No idea why, but I did...for some reason I thought it would be a much nicer life. *LOL* Anyway, every year our church had a Christmas party, and a local guy was hired to play Santa and bring us kids presents and let us sit on his knee and so on (though of course we didn't know the 'local guy was hired' part). One year he had this huge (fake) gold key, and he told us that if we touched the key and made a wish, whatever it was, that wish would come true. I touched it and wished to wake up the next morning as a mermaid living in the sea. Obviously it didn't come true, and I totally lost faith in Santa Claus. ^^;;; This is why people shouldn't make dumb promises like he did.

(Most people tell me it's strange to only have a grand total of three cousins, for instance.)

Yay for the Christmas holidays!! ...Okay, I still have three finals to go, but hey, let me have my wishful thinking. ;P

Ah! Exciting news. I signed up to participate as a subject for a sexual arousal study next semester. Woohoo! I've always wanted to participate in some good old-fashioned plethysmography. ;P (Any of my fellow UofLers who'd be willing to participate? ...I'm really guessing not, knowing you guys, but still, thought I'd ask, since the chick doing the experiment is going to be looking and looking hard.)

I felt really weird today, even more spaced-out than I've often been feeling lately...I even found myself wondering if I might have somehow taken the wrong pills this morning. I hope not, as that's never good. :/ Anyway, I just felt very light-headed and out of it all day, and I also kept experiencing major shortness of breath, almost leading to passing out a few times (managed to sit down each time before actually going down, thankfully). It really didn't feel like panic attacks, which is when I usually hyperventilate like that, but then, I've been fooled by my own body and mind before. I didn't actually feel anxious at all today, which is rare, and also leads me to suspect something went wonky with the drugs. Hmm. :/

Anyway, after nearly passing out shortly before second class, I had a thought that maybe it was an attack of hypoglycemia, which would be strange since I ate lunch (although not a large one), but it's been known to happen before when I haven't eaten something with some decent protein (all I had was a bowl of cheerios ^^;). So I figured I should eat something. Thankfully my mum just put some money in my account...not money I should be using to buy food, though, so I wrestled with a bit of moral dilemma before I finally decided it was worth the chance. Bought myself a turkey n' swiss at the Fresh Express and it seems my hunch was at least somewhat on...eating the sandwich cleared up a lot of the fuzzy-headedness and the feeling of being about to pass out. Since I was buying, I also got myself some chocolate, simply because I've been dying for some for ages. ^^;;; What the hell is it about women and needing chocolate, anyway!?!? ;P (That's a rhetorical question; I know what it is, so no need to explain. ^^)

Speaking of money, I figured out a large part of the reason why I ended up so broke coming up to Christmas. The bank's been stealing it from me. ;P Being the forgetful idiot I am, I forgot that last year (and the year before that...) they randomly started charging me a service fee at some point. When I went in to fix it, they told me I would have to come in every year to provide proof of being a student. (As a student, I don't have any service fees.) Well, I didn't go in this year. ^^; So, they've been taking $5.50 from me every month. May not seem like much, but if you knew how much money I ever have in there in the first place...yeah. In fact, I ended up overdrawn because of this fee, so when I get the charges reversed they'd better pay me back the overcharge fee as well, bastards. Once I get the charges reversed, I should have some decent money from what they've taken over the last few months. Oh, and the sandwich-buying scheme worked out especially well since I ended up with perfect change to give flashboy. ^^ Of course, only enough to pay off the first two movies...tomorrow's will have to come later. ^^;;;

This is basically true, except for the 'pro-choice' part. I firmly believe abortion should be legal, but I would never place myself in the pro-choice camp.

Speaking of feminism, I get a real anti-feminist vibe around the campus lately...any of you other UofLers noticed this? Some examples:

1.) Most years I've been here, the Montreal Massacre display has been up for longer than a day, which is all I think it was this year. (Correct me if I'm wrong and it was up longer.)

2.) Despite the wonderful turn-out to the Daycare rally, Mr. President is totally flipping it off. (BTW, this really pisses me off.)

3.) The nasty editorial in the student paper about the upcoming witchcraft course, describing it as 'disgusting' and 'Satanist' and criticizing the Uni for allowing such a thing to be taught. I noticed Janay and a student responded quite eloquently to this nonsense, but the university declined to respond to the criticism.

I suppose the vibe could all be tied in with point 2.)...if the president is so not-so-subtly disrespectful of feminism, it's not surprising I would get this feeling, I suppose.

I just went to AMV.org for the first time in ages, and found out about this.

Fucking hell, licensing laws are stupid. -_-''' AMVs don't hurt anyone anymore than fanfiction does. They're harmless...no, they're better than harmless, because a lot of people who see a good AMV set to certain music will then take it upon themselves to buy albums by that artist. It happens; I've done it.

Fuck, this kind of thing pisses me off. -_-''' GRRRRR. And you'd better watch out, folks...if this kind of thing is going to happen, they'll be coming after your songfics and your icons with lyrics on 'em next, 'cause you sure as hell don't have 'the permission of the licensers' to be using those lyrics. And how fucking sad is that? Honestly. -_-'''

I spent last evening checking out some hentai doujinshi (at doujindomination.com), as I'm sometimes wont to do...but I always can't help but wonder, why can't there be more nice, romantic het doujin? *frustrated*

I mean, I suppose by this point I shouldn't be surprised by anything. I definitely shouldn't have been surprised to find how many Azumanga Daioh doujin feature the girls paired with Chiyo's dad (or rather, the cat creature Sakaki perceives to be Chiyo's dad). And I probably shouldn't have been so utterly shocked to find a beautifully drawn doujin where Yomi appeared to be getting raped by several incarnations of the fat ugly dude manga!Seras dreams about, who claims to be the spirit of her cannon.

But you know what I mean? Why can't there be more nice, vanilla-ish doujin, doujin that features consensual sex that doesn't involve tentacles, futanari or enormous electronic implements? Not that I always mind those things, you understand, but sometimes it gets to be a bit much...^_^;;;

(On the topic of electronic implements, I must admit I laughed my ass off at a RizaxWinry doujin I saw recently which featured Winry going at Riza with an auto-mail penis, and Riza countering with what appeared to be a rolling pin...*snicker*)

That's my complaint for the day. ;P
