Spring is incoming
Medicines are bountiful
It’s been a long winter, but to be honest, it’s been filled with much needed introspection and creativity. Imagine that, it’s the last day of Feb, and now, signs of spring are here.
Daffodils, also known as “Narcissus Pseudonarcissus”, are popping up everywhere and in their raw form are normally poisonous. Because homeopathic remedies are extremely diluted, they do not contain toxic doses of plant chemicals and have created medicines from nature’s wonders that would normally be deemed toxic to humans.
In homoeopathic doctrine, daffodil is used for various maladies.
Respiratory symptoms such as bronchitis, continuous coughs, and whooping cough.
Flu like symptoms. So maybe a good choice remedy for colds and flus caught in the spring.
Headaches
Gastrointestinal symptoms such as extreme vomiting, especially with intense nausea. There may also be diarrhoea.
Emotional states such as self absorption, anxiety, depression, & melancholy are some of the other areas listed in its healing affinity. This ties in with the story of Narcissus, known by many from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. A story of a self absorbed young man, turned into a daffodil as punishment for his vanity.
In folklore, this wild flower is associated with rebirth and new beginnings, as it symbolises the end of winter and the start of a new cycle. We are almost at this threshold!
The daffodil is also a beautiful reminder that anything can heal or harm; it all depends on how it is understood and how it is used.
Another medicine popping up everywhere is cleavers, also known as sticky Willy and Sticky Weed. When left overnight in water and consumed in the morning, is a wonderful lymphatic tonic.
For cold infusion:
Take 1 handful of fresh cleavers and add 1–2 cups of water. Cover and leave for 8–12 hours, preferably in the fridge. Strain and drink within 24 hours.
Cleavers is like a rebel of the plant world; many have tried to kill this medicine off, even slandering it as a pest. Yet without a care in the world, the sticky weed continues to grow and, working with its wonderful affinities, is an act of the same rebellion.
When you eat foods or cleanse with medicines that grow in their natural season and environment, you help your body to stay in tune with the natural shifts and energy changes that happen throughout the year. Here you can sync yourself with the rhythm of each season, and it is one of the simplest ways to stay in alignment.
