Jessica Jones

I've been meaning to write about Jessica Jones for ages and somehow it is hard to start. I've binged on it the weekend came out and watched all the episodes in two days. So here are some random thoughts behind the cut.

I loved the noir feeling it had. In some parts it reminded me a lot of Veronica Mars, which is still one of my favorite shows. Even in the quiet parts when you didn't know quite know where it was heading, it really commanded my attention.

I loved how the show dealt with rape, trauma and ptsd. The abuse itself was never actually shown, just the fallout and how people dealt with it.

I really loved the fact that there was a balanced number of men and woman in the show and that cast was really diverse. I especially loved the relationsships between all the women, especially Trish and Jessica.

The way male privilege was shown was really interesting and reached a high in the character of Will Simpson, who's ego was so bruised by everthing that he had to insert himself everywhere and try to take over.

Kilgrave was scary as fuck, not just because of his powers, but because he didn't actually have an agenda except cause chaos.

Galavant Season 2 is upon us. We watched the first two episodes with the watch_along last knight and especially the second episode was so laughb out loud funny I laughed and giggled all the way through. Also some of the singing was devine.

<lj-embed id="131" />

<lj-embed id="132" />

Day 05 → talk about books this year

I did read some books this year, but I could hardly ever find the peace and quit, especially the quit of mind for reading. Sometimes I would read something and it was bad and I would not read anything for ages.

I have read quite a few books about health, fitness, mind and veganism. Many of which were quite inspiring.

The best thing that happened though is that spotify has started having audio books. I've listened to some really good books (and bad ones) this way. Die Seiten der Welt by Kai Meyer was really really good and one of the highlights. I also really enjoyed the psychology of Gone Girl. I also listened to all Harry Potter books and the Mortal instrument. I stopped the latter because it got so bad though.

Currently re-reading (actually listening to) American Gods. I am really looking forward to seeing the TV show.

Day 01 → A picture of you taken this year
Day 02 → talk about music this year
Day 03 → talk about movies this year
Day 03 → talk about movies this year
Day 04 → talk about television this year
Day 05 → talk about books this year
Day 06 → talk about food this year
Day 07 → your week, in great detail
Day 08 → your Hanukkah (or Christmas or Kwanzaa or Eid or Yule or Festivus) wish list
Day 09 → a photo that makes you happy taken this year
Day 10 → a photo of you taken over ten years ago
Day 11 → your favorite photo this year
Day 12 → your favorite website this year
Day 13 → new items you’ve added to collections this year
Day 14 → What you are proud of from this year
Day 15 → something that made you laugh this year
Day 16 → something that made you sad this year
Day 17 → something that made you happy this year
Day 18 → what is on your desk right now
Day 19 → what you learned this year
Day 20 → talk about hobbies this year
Day 21 → what you are most pleased about this year
Day 22 → talk about art this year
Day 23 → What you did to have fun this year
Day 24 → a photo of you and your family
Day 25 → Talk about politics this year
Day 26 → A list of what you got for Hanukkah (or Christmas or Kwanzaa or Eid or Yule or Festivus)
Day 27 → A new years resolution
Day 28 → Something which caught your interest this year</strong>
Day 29 → Travel you did this year
Day 30 → Your plans for New Years
Day 31 → Best moment of the month

Welcome!

Today is the day! This after noon I will see the new Star Wars movie with some friends. I really look forward to it. There are no movies I have seen more often than the old Stwar Wars movies. It's been such a huge part of my childhood and my life.

Anyways, I added some of you from this meme. So welcome here. I hope I won't bore you aore drift back into inactiveness again. It's so funny, a week ago I was complaining that it was so quiet and just a few days later and two new people on my flist, I could hardly keep up ;)

I'm in my mid 30ties, have been in fandoms for most of my life. I'm a dancing, reading, snuggling graphic designer and I love design and art and basically beautiful stuff. I usually post what i feel like posting or what I feel might interest you although I've fallen out of that habit a bit in the past few years.

I have several fandom related websites, such as ex-posed.com, parisnights.de and an icon journal at http://onlion.livejournal.com/ It's been ages since I updated any of these though.

Anyways welcome everyone, let's get to know one another.

This is the multi-fandom friending meme going on. Check it out.

Day 04 - talk about television this year

So it's already day 17 of december. Christmas is almost here. I have sent out a second batch of christmas cards yesterday. I'm sure I sent over 20 Christmas cards to friends and family. This time there are all store bought though. No time to prepare them myself though I had wished I could have.

Work is kind of stressful, which is mostly why I could not catch up with this meme so far. I've been writing this entry for a few days now, adding a sentence here and there.

At least today I will not be tempted by social media, because I want to avoid Star Wars spoilers. I haven't even seen the trailers besides the teasers and almost read nothing about the movie. I will see it with some friends later tonight and am cautiously optimistic.

So talking about television will be hard. I really really miss having a fandom. A show that makes me create art and write and dream and tell stories with for myself. I also miss meeting the people in this fandom then and everything that entails. It's been so long since SG:A days.

I always find it curious that most of my fandoms have been such imperfect shows like Star Trek Voyager, Smallville and Stargate Atlantis. But maybe that appeal is to fill the imperfections out with my own vision and those of other people in the fandom.

I tend to watch a lot of tv shows and many of them out of habit more than anything. And really, I watch a lot. To the point where I wonder, why am I watching this. Why am I watching Once upon a time, or Switched at Birth or other stuff. I couldn't even make a list. These are bad shows.

The last season of Orphan Black, though I still enjoyed it, was all over the place and like season two, lacked the tight storytelling of the first season. I enjoyed Game of Thrones more then I had in a while.

I'm slowly falling out of love with the Arrow and I'm not sure I will check out Legends of tomorrow</strong>. I fell out of love with the Good Wife last season and the current one though better could not reignite that spark.

A few shows with promise I started and dropped again very soon, those were Blindspot (void of charisma) and Limitless though I might give this another chance, and Minority Report.

There are some new shows I enjoyed though. Very notable are Killjoys and Dark Matter.

And most importantly Jessica Jones. Which is amazing. I thought it was better than Daredevil. I also liked Sense8. I might right ion debth about Jessica Jones if I find the time.
</strong>
Also, I watched London Spy with the watch-along ladies and it is a very interesting show. Gritty and tense with the most unsettling mood, with great acting by Ben Wishaw and Jim Broadbent. But it is hard to watch.

Oddly enough the shows I enjoyed most this year were comedy shows. Jane the Virgin is one of the weetest most beautifully told tales. I really love the narrative there. The best show though is Brooklyn Nine Nine. The show is full of wonderful quirky characters and it's so laugh out loud funny. I love all the characters and character dynamics. I totally recommend watching it.

Day 03 → talk about movies this year

Day 03

I'm a bit behind again. I guess this was bound to happen. I have a load of work and responsibilities, christmas presents to buy and create. Just a lot of stuff to do.

I think these were my favorite movies this year. I think Kingsman surprised me the most because it was so much fun. A little too violent in some instances, but I loved it.

Mad Maxx was wonderful because it was such a female driven movie, with non-stop action, great world-bulding, great soundtrack, wonderful imigary and Tom Hardy.

UNCLE was also fun. Great characters interaction, lots of tropes and slashiness.

I also enjoyed the martian a lot and the Hunger Games and was really really really underwhelmed with the Avengers movie. Actually, I hated it. I was so bad and it makes me angry.

Day 28 → Something which caught your interest this year
Day 29 → Travel you did this year
Day 30 → Your plans for New Years
Day 31 → Best moment of the month

December to ReMEMEber Day 02 →talk about music this year

Day 01 → A picture of you taken this year
Day 02 → talk about music this year

Music is such a huge part of my life. I listen to music every day, I switch it on to dance around, it inspires my strories, my creativity, my art, everything. I also really love going to concerts and seeing life music.

Spotify has really been giving my access to finding new music through playlists and stuff, which is amazing.

I had a weird phase in the summer listening to chart music. I'm usually love something different.
Anyway here are my favorite albums of the year.

The new editors album is really good, they are finally back in old form. I especially like the songs Ocean of Night, No Harm and Forgiveness.

This is my favorite album. It was released in 2015, but It is the one album I enjoy every song on.

The new Foals album has really been surprising. This is the first Foals album I enjoyed in its entirety. I did love single songs in the past, but this is such a solid rock album.

Day 28 → Something which caught your interest this year
Day 29 → Travel you did this year
Day 30 → Your plans for New Years
Day 31 → Best moment of the month

Vidding Plans

Sooo... I've been thinking of trying my hand in vidding. First I signed up for vestivids, but somehow didn't send in the form and missed the deadline. I would have loved making a vid on the tv show humans for that. It is such a wonderfully atmospheric show.

Now I'm thinking of either trying myself on Jessica Jones. I already have a song in mind for that.

Or the amazing show London Spy. The show has such a unique mood and feel with an underlying tension that could translate really well to a video.

Happy Place

It is quite shocking to me that my last post was in may. May! That is more then half a year. Before that when I went weeks without posting, I've been thinking of posting but didn't manage becasue of time, life, well countless reasons. But I always thought about it. This journal was my happy place. The place where I share things and also deal with stuff.

But I think with the decrease of activity in general, my enthusiasm also waned. So many people who I admired and/or were close with left that it just doesn't feel like the same safe space and I feel that I don't know many of the new people as well as those that have left.

I do realize that is my own doing. I have not been cultivating relationships here. It might have to do with not having something I'm really fannish about. And I also realize that filling this place up with stories and images is what does create a home.

I also noticed that just reading and listening to english stuff and not writing things on my own has lead to my english deteriorating and I don't like that.

Books books books

I've been decluttering and sorted out some english language books. Most of them are well read. Some paperback, some hard cover. They include the Termeraire books by Naomi Novik, some Smallville novels, A book called the Gathering by Kristin Cashore and a book called Contract which is about a contract killer who sees the ghost of his victims.

So I wanted to put out some feelers. I'd feel sad just throwing them away, so I wanted to know if some ofyou would be interested. You know, for free. Aside from shipping. And since I'm in Germany shipping to the states is probably stupid and it would be cheaper to buy the new book.

Eragon - Christopher Paolini
Eldest - Christopher Paolini
Missing Pieces - Joy Fielding
Rhinoceros -Colin Forbes
The Vorpal Blade - Colin Forbes
Precipice - Colin Forbes
Sinister Tide - Colin Forbes
Fury - Colin Forbes
Contract - Simon Spurrier
Shadowmarch - Tad Williams
Smallville - City - Devin Grayson
Smallville- Hauntings - Nancy Holder
Smallville - Dragon - Alan Grant
Graceling - Kristin Cashore

Daredevil Binge watch

So I binge-watched the entire first season of Daredevil back in the weekend when it aired, even though I had totally not planned on it. Note, I have very little knowledge about Daredevil aside from that movie from way back when ;)

<lj-embed id="130" />

It is such a brilliant series. The quality far surpassed that of any other superhero TV show ever. I loved that they actually took the time to develop all these characters in a really nuanced way and gave them so much debth. You really understand the motivation. I thought the take on Fisk was amazing. Some constrained and child-like and so brutal at the same time. I loved all the fight scenes, especially the one when he saves the boy. I love how human he is when he fights, exhausted and beaten up. It makes it so much more rooted in reality and the stakes seem higher. And most impoertantly, I loved how they showed the Matt/Foggy friendship and evolution of it. Foggy is so swesome. Avocados at low.
And of course I loved the small references to the marvel cinematic universe. Really looking forward to season 2.

Miranda Christmas Special - Finale

So this weekend I watched the Miranda Christmas Special.

After the third season, which endend in a way I did not like much, I was a bit aprehensive. But figures I didn't need to worry. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. I don't think there is a simple part of it I did not love. And I loved so hard at some parts. I loved the flashbacks and all the nods to things that happened on the show. I loved that we got to see Clive again.

I loved how they resolved the love story. Because it setisfied both my shipper heart and my desire for growth for Miranda. I might have actually cried a little.

But most importantly, I love that Miranda found some self worth and stood up for herself. It was brilliant and I'm very happy about it.

Marvel's Phase Three

So I just read some information about Marvel's Phase Three, which is basically a movie release schedule.

And even though I loooove the fact that we will get a PoC superhero with Black Panther and a female lead movie with Captain Marvel, what I think is most exciting to me, isn't the moves as seperate entities, but the fact that they have a plan. The fact that they can actually say very little about certain projects and spoilers because events in previous movies inform what happens.

I'm also excited to see how this will influence Agents of Shield.

Oh and even though I really want some Winter Soldier, I like what I know of Civil War and the parallels to Snowdons revelations.

Attention: spoilers behind the cut. Read more about Phase Three here.

Amsterdam and FlickR

I have finally revived my old flickR account and posted my first images there since forever. They are all from a small trip I took to Amsterdam in September with my Diana F and a black and white film.
I spent a couple of days there with Kate and later my parents and did a lot of bike riding.

You can get the whole set here.

So you think you can dance season 11

I actually wanted to make this post yesterday, but didn't do it, did not manage for some reason. I've been watching this season as every year, but I seem to become less and less interested. There were a few nice pieces though. I think Travis Wall picks such beautiful music to choreograph to.

<lj-embed id="123" />

<lj-embed id="124" />

<lj-embed id="125" />

<lj-embed id="126" />

The juice edition

So in my quest for more health for myself, I started juicing a lot. So here are some pics of my juices. Ingredients can be pumpkin, red beet, watermelon, apples, pears, oranges, citrus fruit, spinach, romana salad and cucumber, parsley and mint.

It's raining all day, but I'm shitting sunshine

So this morning started really well. Managed to get up with my alarm clock, prepped my morning juice and did a 40 minute workout. Then got ready, managed to do a straight line above my lashes that I usually never manage and went to the train. Train drove in just as I stopped on the platform. Connection tube was set for "right now" so I ran and managed to squish right through the closing doors and there was a free seat as well.

After that, I learned dutch vokabulary and did really well while listening to my currently favorite song, Overdone by Bombay Bicycle Club.

Anyways, it went downhill from there. Phone is constantly rining and I haven't managed to do any of the work yet that I actually planned. Ah damn, have some fun winter bros ice bucket video.

<lj-embed id="110" />

ps: True Blood managed to give us the most boring finale ever. Such a damn shame.

Video Challenge

So I found this Video "Drawing on the right side of the brain. And I figured it could not hurt to try. The first step was doing a selfportrait in 30 minutes. At leats the portrait resembles me a little bit.

You can find the entire video here.

After the storm, day 2

I wanted to write about this earlier but was way too busy with work. There was the hugest storm in over 10 years in my region on monday night. According to news sites, over 20.000 lightning bolts hit a city in an hour. I was very lucky, that I was home in my apartment and not outside because the storm wrecked havoc in my city and in the ruhrgebiet.

Tuesday morning I went to work by car, because surprise, no trains, no subway, nothing. And the ride to work was eerie and tootally shocking. The damage is so extensive. It looked as if nature had taken back the city. Many streets were blocked by debris, mostly trees.

Oddly enough, the thing still standing was a political ad.

I hope all my friends in the area are all right.

This is a picture I took from the car.

And here are some I found online

ETA: Please check out The Ocean Cleanup
