Family

On the way back from Jojo's today we stopped at Isfield. Is a little village that we pass most times we come back from his.

I've never stopped there before, although I've always meant to. There's nothing particularly special about it, except that my Dad's written a novel (as yet unpublished) partly based there. Well, at the estate house, 'Isfield Place', anyway. My great aunt and uncle used to work there, as the cook and gardener, so my father spent a good deal of his childhood there.

So today, I went.

Couldn't get very close, sadly. Well, the electric gates opened, but I thought it would be a bit rude to wander in unnanounced and interupt someone's lazy Sunday afternoon.

I think if my Dad comes down here sometime I'll ask him if we can go. Apparently last time we went I was one and I screamed and cried until he took me away again..oops!

I can't find much about it out, unfortunately. The 'net has let me down.

Made me think though. My Grandfather is buried in Brighton, and although I've lived here for 4 years - almost 5 - I've never been to see the plaque put up for him. I don't even know where it is. And for some reason, I can't bring myself to ask my Dad. I ought to go to the crematorium, cos they could tell me where it is if they know the name and year, and I know I can narrow that down to 2 years, and I'm pretty sure I know his name. I don't think anyone will have been to visit it for years and years.

There are a few aspects of my family that I'd like to know more about, but mainly, I think I'm glad we're not close. I often hear people talking about their family histories, and tracing their family trees, and I don't even know all of my Grandparents.
