Question for people who know things about what kids think...

For fic purposes, would a 6 year old know someone was dead, if they found the body? One body would be very peaceful, probably asphyxiated, lying down on a sofa, eyes closed. The other would be hanging. Would a kid immediately understand dead, rather than sleeping etc.? Ideally I need to nkow an age when a kid wouldn't. There won't be a lot of 'trying to wake them up' from the kid's part, as he's grown up with domestic violence and is very timid about annoying adults, so especially the one on the sofa, after one attempt, he won't try again. The other one may be hanging higher than he can reach to touch...

If he went and found someone else, would he think these people were dead, is really my question...

I know that's kinda impossible to answer, but I just dont know anything about what kids kknow at what ages. Any help gratefully received.
